Time to end the dating game....
Posted on 04/18/2003 11:38:16 AM PDT by 1stFreedom
My friends unwed, 20 something year old daughter got pregnany recently. The young woman had an abortion, but thank God it didn't take. Now she is going to keep the baby.
The father is half way across the country and wants to have the baby killed. Typical man, want's the fun involved in making a baby but doesn't want the responsiblity of the results of having sex.
My friend is involved in the Church and pro-life activities. Her children were brought up pro-life. So how is it her daughter had an abortion??? How is it her daughter got pregnant in the first place?
Dating.
It all comes down to the fact that people, for the most part, cannot or will not control themselves. I know this from personal experience.
Letting your 20 something year old daughter travel across the country to visit a boyfriend is absurd. You can bet that about 90% of overnight visits by young adults involves sex.
In the past the problem of overnight sex romps was dealt with by sewing the man up in a sack that he couldn't get out of until the morning. Sounds silly? You bet, but, what would you rather do, do something silly or have a pregnant daughter and/or a dead grandchild?
In the past "dates" were chaperoned, providing little or no opportunity for intimate relations. The benefits of such "dating" is that once your jets cool, you can make good decisions about the other person.
Our daughters, even those into their 20's, need protection by parents. If they live at home, there needs to be rules about dating and men. One might think that this would scare away men. If a man isn't willing to abide by these rules, then what is he really after? Is he just after sex? If he is really interested, I bet he'll be willing to be chaperoned.
Friends need to chaperon friends. Double "dating" provides accountablity, peer pressure not to have sex, and it lessens the opportunity for sex.
Also, women shouldn't let a man in their home at all unless a parent is there.
Finally, tell your daughters that if they are pregnant, to tell you first before telling the baby's father. Have them invite the gentleman to your home, and have them tell the father there.
Why? Because more often then not, a man will arrange an abortion appointment. When the woman comes over he'll drive her to the clinc. This is what happened to my friends daughter. She went to his state and house and he drove her right to the clinic!
Never, never, as long as your daughter lives under your roof, ever let your daughter spend the night with a boyfriend. IF she thinks this is silly and does not abide by it, show her the door.
If you think this is silly, then you are just part of the problem. What is worse, chaperoned "dating" and protecting your daughters, or rampant abortion, AIDS, and children without participating fathers? Think about it really good.
So far, Dating is an utter failure.

Letting your 20 something year old daughter travel across the country to visit a boyfriend is absurdLetting? What, are 20 somethings still supposed to ask Mom and Dad for permission to go somewhere? Are parents still supposed to tell their 20 something year old "children" what they should or shouldn't do? Sheesh!

Absolutely!!! I was drug off to church every time the doors were open. I resented that and well it didn't really do anything. Of course my parents never knew that, they thought I was just a good little christian boy. Just because someone is brought up "ProLife" doesn't mean a thing. Teach children some real life lessons..not a bunch of fairy tales.

If you said teenage, I would agree.
Twenty something by any stretch is an adult, I may not like the decision to travel across the country to see a boyfriend or girlfriend, but the time is long past for me or my wife to "disallow" any decision made by one of our adult children.
As parents we do as best as we can to teach our children to make the right decisions and to teach them self respect and hope that that is enough to prevent them from learning the hard way.
Free will is the vise and virtue of man, it's all in the choices we make and at Twenty plus that choice does not belong to one's parents.

Sorry to tell you, but she's right about a lot of men. Define 'a lot'. Is that synonymous with 'typical'?
Speak for yourself, chump.

I could imagine the reaction I'd get putting my foot down when she's in her 20's. HAHAHAHA!

A 20 something year old is an adult, no matter the sex...she chose to have sex with this guy outside of marriage, she chose to attempt an abortion, and now she is (fortunately) choosing to give birth. If she is to be a mother her parents would serve her better by making her face up to her responsibility in her wrong choices rather than blaming society.

Our daughters, even those into their 20's, need protection by parents. Geez what next, even those is their 30's, 40's? You cannot protect your children forever and at some point people have to make their own mistakes in order to learn. You raise your kids to the best of your ability, but at some point you just have let go. Adults, wether they are mature or not, make adult decision and have to deal this those consequences. Trying to prvent this will only lead to further disaster.

Another HA, HA, HA!
The english language often changes the meaning of words over time. The old phrase "double date" has been replaced with the single word "orgy."
Times change, people don't.

Typical man, want's the fun involved in making a baby but doesn't want the responsiblity of the results of having sex.Stupid. The guy doesn't want to make a baby, he wants to have sex. And given the current state of pharmaceutical and latex products, one doesn't inevitably lead to the other. This also presumes that the woman involved doesn't want to have sex, either, but "gives in" to the man, a typical "victimhood" concept usually supposedly limited to the left.
Here's another scenario. The 20 year old daughter was horny, took up with a similarly minded boyfriend, and was too dumb to take the necessary precautions. Now Mom is trying to put the responsibility over everywhere except where it belongs; her daughter, and herself.

Are these women not responsible for their own actions?...their own bodies?...unless someone is holding a gun to their head.
I can also point to examples I know of women having abortions and hiding the fact from "partners" or even disguisng it as a miscarriage.
I said there was plenty of blame to go around. No woman has yet gotten pregnant without a man either that I know of.
But in conclusion, it's undeniable factually that women alone have abortions. Does outside pressure contribute? Yes.
