We wouldn't have bothered if there wasn't WMD and this regime wasn't such a threat. I think Bush could have pulled it off if he could show direct involvement of an attack against the US, as per Afghanistan and 9/11.
Without the direct attack or proof of a serious threat, we couldn't have launched this war.

"
We went to war because our vital interests were at stake (unlike in Somalia, Bosnia, Kosovo, Haiti, etc.). That's the only reason America should ever go to war."Exactly! We went to war to protect ourselves. President Bush has made that quite clear. When we are the target of terrorists, and future horrible terrorism, he wasn't about to sit by.
Except for that aberration Clinton, we have never been a threat to the world.
I have a clip on a lamp by my desk. These words are out of context, but they are true by themselves: "Perhaps never in the history of the world has a country with such military might, economic strength, and cultural influence had so little imperialist interest or practice." These words are similar to what Barry Farber, conservative journalist, has said "---having so much power, and using it less----".
When our country is the target, President Bush did what he had to do, regardless of world opinion.

If that was our only goal, I wouldn't have supported it.

No, the world, especially the UN world, likes murdering dictators. No, it likes not murdering dictators. If the world was willing to murder more dictators, there wouldn't be a problem. <grin>

You got it. Sometimes brevity doesn't come out right on the other end.

I suppose then, it would have been a "crusade."

I think the main reason for this war is this nuke weapons lab our troops have recently found? But I haven't heard too much discussion on the following points:
How about cloning? I wonder how far along Saddam was into cloning? --- I bet Saddam loved the idea!
And the greatest progress in archaeological investigation in the past 30 years gives indication that the Sumerian civilization had a more profound effect on the birth of ancient civilization than previously believed --- it's high time we get that strategic area out of the hands of the nutcase Saddam Hussein!
