I'm thinking she pulled the video so that she, like all liberals, can have the best of both worlds: she can complain about the war in her mindless way, and she be smug in holding back her views as they are too good for the rest of us.

Oh yes she did. Here's my e-mail to her website a few days ago.
"Madonna is a piece of Shxt. Wait, why should I insult Shxt?
You better keep your a$$ out of the good ol' USA. You're not even worth the 1 minute it took to write this.
FOAD..., painfully."
These coddled, self-absorbed idiots are insufferable. TF

Didn't Saddam Hussein issue a statement saying that he was a fan of Madonna? Seriously, I thought I heard that reported somewhere. She must be so proud!

Is this the video where she throws a grenade in George Bush's lap?

Are those sargent stripes on her "costume?"
Isn't it illegal to use this type of military rank, for lack of a better word, "stuff" if it isn't yours? Or is that only if you have a uniform on, you know, one that looks real.

Couldn't leave him off! I'm a huge Brian Wilson/Beach Boys fan - just got a 14 CD bootleg of Beach Boys rarities that I'm immersed in...

We shouldn't be rejoicing she didn't release her video in the U.S. Instead, we should focus on the fact that she's releasing it in Europe and the UK.
What she's doing is sending an "I'm with you" message to the anti-America overseas entertainment industry that she's on its side. She provides comfort and support to our enemies. There are many ways of being a traitor to one's country, overtly or subtly, even if its beamed to particular targets such as the artistic communities over the world.
If we keep looking at her strictly as a joke or a money-grubbing opportunist instead of an ideological leftist, we provide her with cover for her anti-American views. We betray our troops if we take her too lightly in her particular sphere of influence.

I did not at the time realize that Madonna was marketing the video in Europe. Any points she got for common sense just went out the window with that knowledge. The fact that she tailors the message to avoid a domestic backlash betrays that she is without sensitivity or respect.
Furthermore, it will not work. Saying one thing here and another over there will just piss people off all the more.
So, no more cheers for Madonna from me.

Ohhhhh, now I get it! 47 virgins?
Darn, I always thought it was a virgin who had experienced 47 men.

I downloaded the video, out of idle curiosity. Just more of the standard Madonna silliness. Bumping and grinding with military uniforms. Hardly disturbing or even thought provoking at all. Makes me think that all of the "controversy" was ginned up to generate interest and sales.

It's even worse if she continues to show the video in Europe. She doesn't even have the courage to play it here in the US, but has no problem with playing it to make an anti-US statement in Europe. Is she so stupid to think that we won't notice that??

Lots of T&A in fatigues, thongs, a very bad Madonna rap and yes, he grenade landing in Bush's lap(Looks like the guy from That's My Bush) and lighting a cigar. Thanks for the link. I watched it, and I don't know what was more offensive -- the video, or Madonna's incredibly awful rapping!
To: NYCVirago
The Bush double catches the hand grenade in his hand, it doesn't land in his lap. Having a bomb in his lap would be too obvious a metaphor, even for Madonna.
I watched video again, just to punish myself. It really does just seem to be more of the same sexed-up gyrations in a different costume. And hosing down the audience with a water cannon mounted on top of a bulbous Mini Cooper is not exactly subtle symbolism, is it? Not quite Edgar Allen Poe.
The military costumes and toilet scenes do succeed in eliminating most of the appealing tittilation you see on most Madonna videos. The problem is, once you eliminate the appealing tittilation, Madonna has very little else to offer. If the uniforms and scenes of military hardware are meant to be a statement on US military adverturism, they fails because most of the pictures are of either obsolete Soviet equipment, or of aircraft that the US has not yet deployed. So this is either a statement about the Soviet Afghanistan invasion of twenty years ago, or some war ten years from now.
I pity Madonna if she actually considers this piece of fluff to be a serious statement about anything. I will give her credit for working very hard at her lyrical phrasing. She does display a little bit of skill in the way she sings the chorus. The next step would be for her to make it pleasant to listen to, and that's going to take a bit more work.
I can see why her PR flacks find it necessary to gin up some controversy to sell this latest effort, because it does not have enough substance to sell itself.
