American Freepers - What's your job?

Posted on 03/21/2003 7:11:16 PM PST by Tomalak

Free Republic has something of a reputation in many circles as being home of raving mad fanatics or rednecks like Cletus from The Simpsons. What always strikes me though is how smart, thoughtful and well-read the average Freeper is. It's not just compared to the stereotype, but to almost any news forum. Take the forums on Democratic Underground or The Guardian. You'd expect the Liberal Elite to be out in force there. But all you really see are morons who can't reason or think or handle argument.

So I want to know a bit more about the average Freeper. What job do you have? How badly wrong is the stereotype compared to what you acually are?

I used to live in snow country (Burbank Ill, inbetween Chicago and Indiana), not happening. Frozen water is for drinks. I've been training up on tequila, I'm hoping for a spot in Mexico, anybody that's ever slept off a buzz under a sombrero will understand.

I am Network Admin(NT,2000,Exchange,Unix,Solaris)for a large corporation. Spent 7 years in the US Army. I don't believe that has much to do with my knowledge and interests. My Great Grandfather was a WWII vet and an amateur historian. He taught me to seek truth...not opinion.

Circleville is a cool little town, a little depressed on the economic side but most people work out of town. I like it better than California, though I miss the mountains at times (ok, miss the ugly desert too, but the people here more then make up for any scenic disparities).

I think with the right kind of preplanning and professionalism town drunk can be raised to a position of at least as much respect as town fool/ village idiot. Maybe we could make a guild, ala the Butler's Guild.
