American Freepers - What's your job?
Posted on 03/21/2003 7:11:16 PM PST by Tomalak
Free Republic has something of a reputation in many circles as being home of raving mad fanatics or rednecks like Cletus from The Simpsons. What always strikes me though is how smart, thoughtful and well-read the average Freeper is. It's not just compared to the stereotype, but to almost any news forum. Take the forums on Democratic Underground or The Guardian. You'd expect the Liberal Elite to be out in force there. But all you really see are morons who can't reason or think or handle argument.
So I want to know a bit more about the average Freeper. What job do you have? How badly wrong is the stereotype compared to what you acually are?

The short version is I'm a medical transcriber with ambitions to make a living as a SF/Fantasy writer -- though right now I'm on a poetry-writing kick. The slightly longer version can be read on my FReep Home Page... click on my name.

My primary employment is as a Network Technician in the IS department of a manufacturing company, and I am also District Technical Support for a nation-wide tax preparation company. And I do freelance computer repair on the side. Oh, and I am also a certified Tax Preparer. Additionally last November I was teaching "Introduction to Conversational Spanish" classes...
In the past I have worked in Corporate Communications and in Construction Management.

Although I still do some real estate business with a few clients and actually made an offer today on a good sized commercial property, I spend most of my time negotiating protecting buildings from bomb blasts by the terrorist bastards. After many months of negotiating, I think we are only a few weeks away from protecting a major skyscraper in Times Square. For over three decades around the world, the company with which I am associated protects glass and has saved many lives. With an optically clear 7-mil window film, we sustain a 500-lb TNT bomb from a distance of 111 feet. IMPAX EXTREME Fragmentation/Blast Security Window Film is the state of the art product in the world.
