American Freepers - What's your job?
Posted on 03/21/2003 7:11:16 PM PST by Tomalak
Free Republic has something of a reputation in many circles as being home of raving mad fanatics or rednecks like Cletus from The Simpsons. What always strikes me though is how smart, thoughtful and well-read the average Freeper is. It's not just compared to the stereotype, but to almost any news forum. Take the forums on Democratic Underground or The Guardian. You'd expect the Liberal Elite to be out in force there. But all you really see are morons who can't reason or think or handle argument.
So I want to know a bit more about the average Freeper. What job do you have? How badly wrong is the stereotype compared to what you acually are?

Currently unemployed since 12/6/2003. WorldCom decided they didn't need me anymore. I worked for them as a database programmer and analyst in both a windows and Unix environment. I developed reports, OLAP cubes and administered servers and databases. I also developed website for the company intranet.
Before that I was in the electric utility field. I spent six years as a generator specialist with GE installing and maintaining turbine generators. I also worked for Megger for two years selling equipment to China.
Yes I am looking for work so if anybody knows of any openings especially in the Dallas area please e-mail me.

Mild mannered reporter for a great metropolitan newspaper.
But seriously,
By day I'm an operations forecaster/planner for large-cap corporation.
Although in my youth, especially working my way through college and grad school, I must have held about 20 different jobs: lifeguard, dishwasher, bartender, factory line attendant, cable TV salesman, limo driver, mason's helper, cook, store window cleaner, gas station attendant, etc.

After reading these great occupations, I am wondering what this thread would look like over at DU. Haha! Indeed. Anyone have a DU account? Please set up a thread asking the same question and see what they say.
