Yes, I've seen the light
Posted on 03/21/2003 6:18:30 PM PST by evalynne
12 years ago, during another war in the Persian Gulf under the leadership of another President Bush, I was a protestor. I might add I was a loud and visible protestor. I marched (sometimes by myself) with a hand made sign, and would speak in earnest into the local university's public microphone. I held a rabid hatred for George Bush. He opitomized everything evil, self-serving and subversive to me.
Then, I grew up.
I bore children and fretted about their safety. I entered into the workplace and considered where 1/4 to a 1/3 of my hard earned wages were being spent. I found God in the person of Jesus Christ.
Now, I'm 34 years old living in the San Francisco Bay area. I see what I was 12 years ago in the protestors I've seen in the streets: ignorant, un-involved, without God, self-serving, selfish and non-contributing.
Truth, when we open our minds to it, certainly does set you free. It set me free to recognize that I may have made a mistake. Only then was I reconciled to reality. I've learned that it is a virtue to respect our elected leaders, without this order, there is chaos. I have learned that death accompanies life, and that it is not true that peace should come at any cost. In fact, I have learned that the peace these misguided people are demonstrating for could not be afforded by any free people.
To the protestors I suggest that you take some quiet time for honest reflection. Take a bath, look in your local newspaper for job, then pay your taxes. If you're still in college, please stop believing that your professors are prophets. They aren't. Pick up a good book, and educate yourself. The truth is out there if you actually look for it and stop lying to yourself that your cause is just. It isn't. I was a fool, like you. Your foolishness is a liability. Good, brave men and women are sacrificing their lives for your freedoms. What have you done, today?
Thank you for the forum. God bless our Nation and our people.

That is very well said.

We will win them ALL over before it's over (except, of course, the ones we don't really want in the first place!)

BTTT! My brother-in-law's mom is an avowed liberal, but yesterday she stated that Bush really is smart and seemed to have a plan all along when she saw how effective our liberation of Iraq was going. So you're not the only one rethinking their opinions.

I have a similar history. I heckled Jeb Bush when I was in college, I hated Reagan, voted strictly for the Democrats...
And then grew up...
