Word For The Day, Friday, 3/21/03
3/21/03
Posted on 03/21/2003 1:42:33 AM PST by Bella_Bru
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of word for the day. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the word of the day; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....
Teacher's note:
I know some of you wonder why I post WFTD just after midnight every night. The reason is simple. I am on the west coast. If I post it when I get up, it would be late morning for many of you, and I do not want any of you to think that I forgot to post it. Also, I know many of you are irked by the fact that you do not always receive a grade and critique, or that the critique is non-existent. Once again, by the time I get up and get around to this thread, it is upwards of 200 posts. My apologies if any of you are annoyed beyond belief.
supposititious\suh-poz-uh-TISH-uhs\, adjective:
1. Fraudulently substituted for something else; not being what is purports to be; not genuine; spurious; counterfeit.
2. Hypothetical; supposed.
Etymology: Supposititious is from Latin suppositicius, from suppositus, past participle of supponere, "to put under, to substitute," from sub-, "under" + ponere, "to put." It is related to suppose.

hard to know what to believe about the surrendering. i saw a few this AM being filmed as they surrendered, xsboy was astounded bc they were dressed like guys at the local 7-11, no uniforms etc. HE was perplexed bc the iraqis have uniforms on the XBOX version of Desert storm!

Miss Rose, see what kind of response you get when you ask them, where the heck were all these pacifists during Kosovo.Actually, I have. I either get blank stares or muttered responses that amount to, "Well, that was different!" I really find myself believing that the world is going mad.

Funny thing is -- you cannot get a degree from IUPUI; you must choose either IU or PU in order to graduate.
To: xsmommy
what the heck is IUPUI? Indiana University at Purdue Indianapolis
Or something similar.

I guess it's sort of a joint junior-college operation, but students must choose one of the regular schools before they can file a degree plan.... damn Indiana folk always have been a bit odd, you know.
To: TheGrimReaper
so basically KY is playing some Sisters of Perpetual Mercy squad first thing out? ; )

It WAS different. Saddam has been a lot worse to his people that Slobo was to his. Also, Slobo was really no threat beyond his borders, whereas Saddam can hand over his stuff to terrorists...
I know, Miss Rose, what's the point. I think they ARE mad.
Some article in the Washington Times this morning suggested many the pacifists view this in an analogous fashion to the way a Civil War enthusiast sees a re-enactment of Chancellorsville, a return to the good ol' days in the 60's. Sheesh. Except for the sexual revolution, the late 60's sucked!

That's the way the NCAA tourney works... Number 1 seeds (KY) play against #16 seeds; #2 plays #15, etc.
The objective is to have the 4 best teams in the country, i.e. the four #1's, meet in the Final Four.....of course, that almost never actually happens.
