The Greatest Story, Newly Told -- Mel Gibson on "The Passion," and the passion behind it.

Bounding around Studio 5 on the Cinecitta lot, not far from the catacombs, Mel Gibson is giving the performance of his life. In the shadow of an olive tree, wrapped in blue fog, he is at first a trembling Judas yanking at his lip, now a torch-toting member of Herod's guard. After expelling a cough (the remnant of a flu bug) and running a hand though his mane, he is suddenly a placid Messiah.

Does anyone actually know how to speak the Aramaic language well enough to have been understood by the native speakers?

I hope his comments about Hebrew being a dead language don't offend Jews, I'm pretty it was just Mel's Mind/Mouth clutch slipping.

I do, too. He has the guts to stand up to his lefty comrades. I hope we all go and support this film! I know my husband and I will, and we NEVER go to the movies anymore.

Bad Dog! Surf before posting questions:

Aramaic survives as a spoken language in small communities in Syria, Iraq, Turkey, and Iran. The Comprehensive Aramaic Lexicon will not attempt to be a full dictionary for this Modern Aramaic, which is best undertaken as a separate task, but where an ancient word has a modern continuation, the Modern Aramaic use will be recorded.

I don't know about anyone else but I will buy a copy sightunseen just to support the effort and faith that went into it's making. I also know deep in my heart that the lack of subtitles is meaningless, we will all understand.
Amen.

Is this for real? I keep expecting this report to be a hoax, but it's in the WSJ. It sounds too good to be true.

My mom and I have remarked a number of times that it has been years since the making of a good, Biblical film. Leave it to Mel Gibson to break the drought.

Anyone want to take any odds that it won't be nominated for any Oscars?

Gibson is DA MAN!

And I just gotta give him an extra shout out because he is Catholic, and a strict one at that.

I think We Were Soldiers was one of the best movies of last year. That it did not get nominated for an OSCAR is proof that the OSCARS are nothing but pure BS!

I am excited about this one. The movies in the past were made to reach as broad as possible. Some of them were made for evangelistic purposes. If they were made like Mel's will be they would have to tag the "R" rating on it. I hope and pray that it will cause many more to reconsider what Christ really did to secure our salvation.

-- 'He came into the world and it knew Him not.' Looking at Christ's crucifixion, I look first at my own culpability in that."

Hence ... in the present day what sacrifices are we making to our belief in Christ, his teachings and message of salvation? A very appropo question indeed?

Mel is doing his part to spread the message.

Wish he'd use subtitles or translate it into English. Gibson is a bit eccentric, especially in areas of his faith, but he seems like an okay guy from what I've seen and heard.

"and most of what we do know is heavily biased by one agenda or another."

LOL On the one hand, you say to 'face reality' about not knowing much about Christ, then you make the claim that what we do know is heavily biased.

So. . .since you think we know so little, how in the world can your conclusion about bias be valid?

I wholeheartedly agree.....we must all keep Mel in our prayers. The evil one will try very hard to get him...but he will not succeed. Mel is doing the Lord's work.

Same here, but I do wish they would put subtitles on the screen, it would at least let us know what they are going to be saying....
