Years and years ago I was working as a file clerk in a hospital. I PROMISE you I'm not making this up.

The parents of a sweet new little baby girl was named "PLACENTA" because the mother thought it sounded so pretty. It didnt matter that the nurses told her what the word meant, the mother replied that she liked the sound of it and no one she knew would know what it meant.

My Mom is in social services in a fairly small southern city, so the people she deals with are not the most educated. Mom came to get the SS papers filled out on the baby and asked the baby's name. "Someone already named my baby" was the answer. The woman had read the infant tag with her last name preceded by....female. Pronounced like tamale.

Placenta is almost common these last 30 years or so, though I have neve met an adult Placenta. Do none of them survive childhood?

Someone on another thread related a similar story. After reading both I have to conclude that Placenta is a much better name than Meconium!
