"We're used to it now, after living in Utah for a number of years, but there definitely is a "Mormon way" of naming kids."
Whoa, hold it there pal. It's a UTAH Mormon thing. As a Mormon myself I can tell you that Utah Mormons are a little different than the rest of us in some way, especialy when it comes to naming kids.

just for the record I think Madison is really cute.
Darryl hannah from Splash.
Madison is also the name of that top model Amber Valletta who plays Madison Elizabeth Frank in What Lies Beneath.

At least your first name isn't Deloris ( Sienfeld). Mulva?

OH NO!!!!! NOT MECONIUM!!!! I have to agree with you. Meconium is probably several magnitudes in order worse than Placenta would be.
I'm sorry you blessed little ones named "Meconium"....I'm not laughing at you...you are innocent, but I do have to admit that I'm ROFLGFA-ND here!!

I used to know a girl named Robin. Years later when she married I saw her wedding announcement in the paper. She married a man with the last name of Sparrow. Birds of a feather...

Some other interesting, and true, names I've come across....
Ima Pigg
Guy N. Woods

Oh, God, Riley is so trashy. Why dont you just hand her over to the porn industry to raise? Because when I think of Riley, especially with your last name, I think, "How much does she charge?" *sigh*

Nothing wrong with it. Not a name you hear too much outside of Texas. Hey, if you heard some of the names in my family......yeesh. "Mordecai, Lulu, Arden, Mildred, Dwayne". Madison and the like are GREAT improvements!

"Margaret" is coming back, with the nickname of Maggie (instead of the old-fashioned Peggy).
Names like Elizabeth, Catherine and Rachel will never go out of style.

That's good to hear! I'm particularly fond of the name Elizabeth.
To: LowOiL
There must be 50 variations of certain names from the 50's: Charlene is now Sharlana, Charlayne; Elaine is Alayna, Elianna, Ellia, Aliya, Aleah; Cheryl is Sharyle, Sherrill, Sherila; Janet is Jonetta, Jainette (etc.)
People want a spin on the names that run in their family, but they don't want a name that sounds like Grandma or Grandpa's.

Names like Elizabeth, Catherine and Rachel will never go out of style. Amen to that! (and I'm an agnostic!)
What's with all these stupid people who give their kids last names for first names, anyway? The only reason I can figure out for why people don't give their kid a normal name is that they must know others they don't like with those normal names.
Cutesy names are bad enough for girls, but if you're tempted to give one to a boy, just save yourself the trouble of looking through those stupid "name" books, and call the lad, "Snap-me-on-the-ass-with-a-towel-in-PE" and get it over with!
Is there a black family in America who has given their kid a normal name in the last fifteen years?
To: Ciexyz
but they don't want a name that sounds like Grandma or Grandpa's. I was named after my dad's grandfather. Although looking back in my family tree, most of the names even back 4-5 generations are used commonly still today.

"Snap-me-on-the-ass-with-a-towel-in-PE" and get it over with! Bwahahahah.
Is there a black family in America who has given their kid a normal name in the last fifteen years?
Actually, yes, although they make me look liberal and they are republican.

I swear to you by everything that is holy I - and my wife - have never seen the movie Splash and did not have that in mind when we named our daughter Madison. We liked the sound of the name (I think it sounds strong) and there were not that many girls named Madison 6-1/2 years ago (that we knew). Little did we know it was going to be such a popular name.
And I still don't think it is pretentious. Fer Christ's sake, it's nothing like some of the ones we've read on this thread.....

It's a UTAH Mormon thing Well ok, I believe you, but Utah is the only place I've lived with a significant Mormon population, so I wouldn't have know that!
