The original story was Jan. 7:

Family Keeps Pet Eel in Bath - for 33 Years

Turns out there is always someone out there to punish good deeds. PETA types in Germany of course read the story, and complained.

Eel faces eviction from bath

It is not like the Germans use their bath tubs for anything else.

I like this family. Dad catches an eel with the intent of having it for dinner, the soft-hearted kids say no, so they install it in the bathtub and pamper it -- for 33 years.

The Bochum authorities sound nice and sensible too (could they perhaps have a word with Schroeder about Iraq?).

Not sure about the vet who pronounced the eel "happy" -- do German vet schools teach eel psychoanalysis?

And f**# the "animal rights activists", who I'd guess are all younger than this lucky eel -- the chance that this eel would have survived 33 years in the wild is zero. The only "right" this eel needs protected is his right to continue living in the luxury of his adoptive family's bathtub. And I bet he ignores the new pipe (which might be better deployed to banging certain animal rights activists on their thick heads), having learned decades ago that one doesn't need to hide from predators when you're hanging in the Richter's bathtub.
