Male grooming 'on the up'
Men are waxing their legs and having their eyebrows plucked in increasing numbers as attitudes to body hair change, according to a study published today.
Body hair is seen as dirty and ``getting in the way`` by men anxious to show off their physiques, interviews conducted by a Nottingham Trent University researcher have shown.
Marsha Smith, of the Department of English and Media Studies, said gay culture, widespread gym membership and sports such as body-building and cycling had made shaving body hair more popular with men.
Men were waxing their legs, backs and chests and were removing hair from their armpits, eyebrows, noses and ears, she said.
She added: ``There is a whole culture that has grown up around bodies being very clean and almost sterile and hair is traditionally seen as dirty - body hair would be removed before surgery because it is seen as potentially harbouring dirt.``
Her findings were based on interviews and on analysis of beauty treatments.
I'm voting for au natural in men.
Already got 'em.
LOL.....And one could say using the product could cause you to lose 'em
NOOOOOOOOOOOO!! Don't do it!! DON'T!! AAUUGH!
hair migration=okay,
hair elimination=not okay?
Heck, those are the only (mentionable) places I can get the hair to grow anymore. Except for my nose and ears (where it bugs the hell out of me) I'm not gonna remove it unless I can transplant it back to the top of my head. And that looks too painful, I'd rather just wear a hat.
A balding head looks masculine. Shaved or waxed legs look gay feminine.
Besides. Imagine being up close and personal with someone whose chest and back hair is growning back in. A five-o'clock shadow is hard enough on a girl's face...
If only more women were like you. I have a feeling you're in the distinct minority amongst women.
I can't comment on which I prefer since I am a hairy man and I am not bald or balding (yet, knock on wood).
But your last point should be a word to the wise if you choose the "hairless" option.
*I* am like her.
Just older, and more set in my ways :D. Down with the androgynous look!
This story makes me think of the scene in Deuce Bigelo, Male Gigilo, where he went in for hair removal in some real delicate areas!
I've had my eyebrows waxed while getting a haircut; they seem to be getting too bushy. But I thought a hairy chest was something that women liked.
