600 in line ahead of him? Geesh, the $$$ spent on these people while waiting. Maybe we need to bring back executions and have it done immediately.

"The court finds that the weight of the evidence ... supports the jury's verdict of death," Mudd said.

Good.

"More than 600 inmates are currently on California's death row awaiting execution."

Don't see a backlog like that in Florida or Texas!
Governments owe it to the people to have fair trials, then swift and sure execution of people like Westy.

Additionally, California law provides an automatic appeal to all death sentences.

AAARGGHHH

Death sentence brings automatic appeal process - more pain for the VanDam's. He's going to die in the cell (maybe he can get a heart replacement operation paid for by you and me) - this sentence was all flash, no substance...

California has executed a total of three people since 1977.That is why there are over 600 on death row.Richard Davis who brutally murdered Polly Klass was sentenced probably close to seven years ago to death. He has yet to be appointed his appeals lawyers.Appeals of course will take years. My guess it would be a minimum of 15 years before Westerfield would face execution and hes already in his mid mid fifties, so my guess is he will die a natural death in prison before he is ever executed. The residents of California ought to be outraged by this. And until they are the system won't change.

Wow, and this happened in the state that couldn't convict OJ. Luckily, the victim and killer were both white so that Kalifornia couldn't inject their state-sponsored racism to skew the jury.

He deserves the death penalty, no doubt. He's a cold blooded child killer.
It irks me to no end, though, how the mother is pretending to be a loving mother for the court. This woman spent her time in bars bringing home complete strangers for group sex.
I'm suprised it was just one of her kids! It could have been them all.
After court, while interviewing the "mother", she was smiling!!! She's actually loving the cameras!
I wonder how much she'll get for a book deal, as visions of dollar signs dance in her head!

She said she layed awake in bed all last night. I wonder where she found the guy laying next to her this time.
This whole think s sickening. A little girl is dead, we have a pedophile killer who may be saved by Califorinia PC, and the swinging parents have become "the victims."
Only in PC America.

600 in line? What's the hold up? Oh yeah--- a state filled to overflowing with liberals tend to be slow to progress.

Sounds like California needs to take some lessons from Texas and Arkansas - Yeah, maybe they have a backlog, but nowhere near as long as California's.....

Anyone here have more data on California's death penalty and when the last execution was?

The endless appeals process, as well as, the endless publicity for these murderers in only about MONEY.

How many of the 600 murderers on California's death row have sufficient resources to hire a constant stream of leftist lawyers to defend them? Try none.

Well, if these maggots are able to continue to file their appeals, WHO is providing the legal aid...I am sure the gullible ole taxpayers are.

So...when one of these puss-wads gets executed, that's one less parasite client on the public dole, rather, one less parasitic lawyer soaking up the public legal aid funds.

So, even though the public wants to liquidate these murderers, the ABA and the Trial Lawyer's Association must follow their "consciences" and soak up the public's money!!

This doesn't mean much in California. He'll die of old age before he sucks the cyanide. Too bad they couldn't try the bastard in Texas.

I can't believe the "subculture" that has developed here at FR, of completely venomous, acrimonious and largely ludicrous threads, with viscious personal attacks hurled back and forth. Looks like the rest of us are DOOMED to put up with it as long as legal proceedings continue, and probably longer than that, as the trial and the facts are played out over and over and over, ad nauseum.

Many of us with a less personal investment in the outcome of the trial have tried, and given up, posting on these threads because we end up getting attacked as if from a pack of wild dogs, or else we start becoming one of the pack. It's like it's consumed your lives almost to the exclusion of everything else and y'all don't even know any of the people actually affected by the case.
