Klez can start if you open a message with IE and have auto execution enabled, before you get the chance to actually open the attachment. Otherwise, you have to actually open the attachment to be infected.

Info on detecting and cleaning is here:

Depending on your version of McAfee, it may not be scanning web content. The new one can, but the older ones don't. I like PC-Cillin from Trend Micro but any of the top antivirus apps will do.

Trend (www.antivirus.com) also has a free online scanner that will at least tell you if you've been infected.

Good luck!!

Thanks! I think I'm ok, because it came to hotmail and I didn't open any attachments...

I got hit with Klez last year. Since then, I look at all the e-mails in my inbox list before I start scrolling down because the next one will open automatically if I close one. If there is one from someone I don't know, or don't recognize, I right click and delete it. Then I go to my deleted files and delete it again. I never open them!

I got an e-mail from a freeper a few weeks ago, but had never seen that e-mail addy, so I deleted it. She freepemailed later to ask if I'd seen it, then I realized who the sender was!

For some reason, I've been getting some nasty e-mails (can tell by the description) and I do the same with those. I frankly don't care with whom Britteny does anything! I get those about once a week. EWWW!
