I got home from work and found a wedding invitation from two old friends who are younger than I am. I'm blow out of the water. I can't be old enough to get married or know anyone who is!
Also... this is the same group of friends that included my only... how to say this... the only real person I've ever fallen in love with. Haven't seen him for years. Why are there butterflies in my stomach? Can I possibly wear a size ten by the time of the wedding?
Is it spring in the Hobbit Hole or something? Seems like just about everyone has a date or possible meeting lined up!
As for drinks, I'll share some of this if you want...
I just went for a long walk. It's too hot to go for long walks. What was I thinking?
1. For you folks that wanted one of your own, the order has been placed.
2. I took a sample to HH, and after much discussion, we decided that pantograph engraving would be impossible. First, there is very little usable area on the knife. Second, the knife would have to be clamped to the work surface with the engraving area horizontal. There was no way to do that without building a special jig.
3. I left one knife there for laser engraving, which only requires the surface to be horizontal, but doesn't require any clamping. The URL will be engraved on the flat area just above the cutting edge. It will be ready tomorrow, and I'll post a picture of the results before we make a final decision.
4. I asked how much this one engraving job was cost, and heard a mumbled "seven-and-a-half". That's in the ballpark with Things Remembered (which is still a bit pricey), but TR never saw the knife, and would probably refuse the job.
5. Before I left, I showed the guy our pages at the-hobbit-hole.net. He was impressed with what he saw, along with being extrememly impressed with the knife (obviously a knife neophyte). I told him that if he gives us a break in exchange for putting his logo on the knife (there is room for a small one next to the CRKT logo), his store would get a VERY nice mention in the "certificates" that will accompany these gifts.
6. Here are a couple of photos. The first shows one of the knives compared to my regular pocket knife. You can also see the difference between laser engraving (top knife) vs. electro-etch on the bottom. The other picture shows the gigantic area of engraving on the back of the blade, which prevented us from using that area.
At the rate you're going, I don't see why not, if it is a couple of months away.
