Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

To: Corin Stormhands
Well, we know "Trotter" couldn't have been an elf name... Maybe it could, if their first name was "Tippytoe".

Not to mention the perils of climbing through Moria...uh...er..behind him...

The elf named "Trotter" had his name changed to "Prancer"...

Apparently JRRT wasn't sure who "Trotter" was going to be at first, but eventually decided his real name was to be Peregrin Boffin (son of Paladin Boffin!), Bilbo's first cousin once removed on his Took side. He was a Hobbit who had been "lured away" by Bilbo's and Gandalf's tales of far away lands, and become a "Ranger" living in the wild.
The volumes dealing with the writing of LOTR have been collected in a smaller set called "The History of Lord of the Rings", and it might be easier to start with them. The earlier volumes on the full History (1 through 5) deal with the original development of the Silmarillion, between 1915 and 1938, and can be somewhat repetitive! But, I've enjoyed reading them to see how the pattern of the stories slowly changed and developed.

LOL Vim!
Alyson has an Elmo doll dressed as a farmer holding a plastic dog (doll used to be Becky's) that plays that tune. The plastic dog lights up and "barks" in the right place.
I hear that thing every single day and it drives me nuts! It also plays those fabulous hits "These Are The People In Your Neighborhood" and "This Old Man".

"ACK! That will be going through my head for the next three days, now, guaranteed! ROFL! "I can fix that! This song will knock it right out of you!
Ballad of Bilbo Baggins
In the middle of the Earth in the land of the Shire,
Lives a brave little hobbit who we all admire.
With his long wooden pipe, fuzzy woollen toes,
He lives in a hobbit hole and everybody knows him
Chorus:
Bilbo, Bilbo Baggins, he's only three feet tall.
Bilbo, Bilbo Baggins, the bravest little hobbit of them all.
Now hobbits are peace loving folks, you know,
They're never in a hurry and they take things slow.
They don't like to travel away from home.
They just like to eat and be left alone.
But one day Bilbo was asked to go
On a big adventure to the caves below,
To help some dwarves get back their gold
That was stolen by a dragon in the days of old.
Chorus
Well he fought with the goblins, he battled a troll,
He riddled with Gollum, a magic ring he stole.
He was chased by wolves, lost in the forest,
Escaped in a barrel from the Elf King's Halls.
Chorus
Now he's back in his home in the land of the Shire,
That brave little hobbit that we all admire.
Just sitting on a treasure of silver and gold,
A puffing on his pipe in his hobbit hole.
Chorus

I have never properly understood what qualifies as SPAM. Maybe Hair can clarify? That would have been an easier question to answer an hour ago than it is now!

I think I'll make some of my challah today That sounds like a great idea!! I have a recipe in my James Beard "Beard on Breads" Cookbook that I've been wanting to try. There's nothing like 8 degrees outside with a wind chill of -6 to put you in the baking mood!!

Definition of SPAM:
Any post whose sole purpose is to waste valuable bandwidth in order to acheive an advantage in obtaining an absolutely useless post number containing as many zeros as possible for no logical reason whatsoever.

And maybe because in The Sixth Sense the dead people aren't really trying to hurt the kidWhat was scary in 'The Sixth Sense' was that all through the movie I kept worrying that something bad was going to happen to the kid! Because of that, it was one of the most intense movies I've ever seen.

Good morning! At this moment I am watching my horse roll in the mud in his $200 coat. Such a mess when they are wet and roll.ACK! I don't know what the appeal of rolling in cold mud is. Nice, dry dust on a hot day would be different. We're into our second week of temperatures 10-20 degrees below normal, but they promise that we could warm up into the low 20s next week. "Global warming", my ass.
Oh, and Marl makes custom horse coats and blankets as a sideline. If you're intersted, let me know, and I'll get you a good deal.
