Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

The bark of the Pacific Yew is the source of the drug taxol (paclitaxel), which is used to treat cancer, especially cancers of the ovary, breast, and lung.
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
Pretty cool, Bear, maybe Suzi's drug, tamoxifen is a trade name for taxol or derivative, sounds like it.
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
OK, so I was close! It started with the same letter! LOL!

I think Tamoxifen is different from taxol, but I'm not sure. The Tamoxifen home page locked up my browser!

Well, I have also found this on Google:
"Warning! Yew needles and seeds are highly poisonous. As few as fifty needles have been fatal; the sap was used by Celts to produce poison arrows."
To: Sam Cree
Well, all cancer drugs are poison. The hope is that they will kill the cancer faster than the person.

I have been watching disc 4, when Sean Bean spoke of the most unlikely friendships made on the set, it put me to mind of the friendships we are making on this thread, we would never have met except for it, I don't think. It's very nice.
Funny that Sean Astin seems to actually have Sam Gamgee's personality in many ways.
To: HairOfTheDog
Yes, that chemotherapy is some terrible stuff, it's true.
To: Sam Cree
I just loves those guys! - Every last one of 'em.
OK - I am gonna watch it again!
Got a cool article I am about to post over on the spoiler thread.... been out hunting! [grin!] Look in a few minutes.

I like Dom's story about how EW can sleep anywhere if they leave him alone for 15 minutes. That was a feature of the young HairOfTheDog... My family has pictures of me sleeping in odd places as a kid.
And I laugh out loud when Dom is talking about EW falling down three sets of stairs and getting up like nothing happened. "That is an amazing gift he has!" LOL!

My wife falls asleep instantly, like a switch has been thrown, I don't understand it...I always toss and turn, my mind works, it's not so easy...so can you not fall asleep so easily anymore?
Good night all, not sure why I'm still up.
To: HairOfTheDog
Oh hi, Hair, you are still up? Yes, I liked watching the cast, they really do seem like nice folks.
Wellington does not look like a very large city.
To: Sam Cree
so can you not fall asleep so easily anymore? I could fall asleep in two minutes if I hadn't had a strong cup of coffee tonight at around 9:00. Silly hobbit.

Good morning! Another cold one...though it's warmer than yesterday. -6 right now.
I got asked to come to a practice for a local trio - two of the members are in my church choir, which is how I know them. They're looking for a mandolinist and want to see what I can do! They haven't ever heard me play, though - likely I'll get booted before the end of the practice, but I'm excited anyway.
