Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

8:00. It is 5:30 now, and I need to get showered and get a move on...
Heh. I really feel lousy from staying up all night. If I didn't know better I would think somebody took my body out for a night of heavy drinking last night!
If I didn't already have the tickets I would put it off till tomorrow. I will feel better after a shower, I think!
To: HairOfTheDog
It's 7:30 here, I'm thinking of taking a benadryl so I'll sleep really deep all night.

I don't think you are going to find a lot to elf-bash about, except perhaps Elronds expressions when he is watching the elves leaving. I have to admit he looks... pained. ;~DWell.....there was the girlie armor on the elf in the Marshes, Faramir has been hanging around the elves (he came across as a bit snooty), good girly elf screams at the battle.
And apparently Legolas hasn't learned much about Men in his travels. I'm talking about that outburst at Aragorn when they're preparing for the battle. The outburst that goes "It's hopeless!" If elves live for thousands of years with so little hope, I'm glad I'm a mortal!

I have chuckled and reminiced as I've read about your cloak. I remember - I really hate to say this - back in about 1977 when I took it into my head to make my own. There was no film to see then so mine came out of my own imagination. However, I wear it a few times every winter and I always get great compliments on it. It looks great over a nice dress and other ladies at my church love it. It's been fun over the last (uhhum) few years explaining the motivation for making the thing.
Oh, and when I made this it was such a hit that I had to make my - then 2 year old - daughter one as well as a niece. he he he. must be a family of elves here.
To: Lil'freeper
Didn't you just love it that Gandalf charged at the orcs while they had the rising sun in their eyes?? They couldn't see what was coming at them!
What a show indeed! I didn't get to go this evening...all sold out!
To: Lil'freeper
I am glad you brought up the maps.
I thought it was wrong for Faramir to use the map we all recognize from the book... It snapped at me as being wrong, because I always pictured those maps and the artwork on them as being Bilbo's. I thought Faramir should have had a map drawn by a different artist, more "man-like" and not familiar to us. I thought "Now why is Faramir using Bilbo's map?"
Thoughts? Anyone else attribute those maps to Bilbo?
To: The Iguana
All right Iguana, you've seen the second showing. Was Faramir's line about finding Boromir in the boat in there or did I just dream that part because I knew it was supposed to be? I'm awake again and ready for the update or correction, whichever.
Gotta go see this again. Don't know if I can wait till Friday.
To: HairOfTheDog
Yikes...you got the "bad" number!
To: All
Sean Astin is going to be on Leno tomorrow night.
To: HairOfTheDog
Nah... Elves don't punch a timeclock. They have time on their side. They just like to stick it to their dwarf/human/hobbit employees.
To: HairOfTheDog
Even though it was corny, I gotta love the Brego scene It reminded me of Her Majesty wanting food at 4:00 in the morning.
To: All
Liv Tyler is going to be Letterman on the 20th.
To: Lil'freeper
He didn't heighten the esteem of dwarves. (their women are mistaken for men?? how sad is that?... Ian McKellan voice: Well, it is in Tolkien.....
Seriously, look in the appendices regarding dwarves. I don't have time to look it up now.
I know what you mean about the jokes. There really were a lot of jokes. I think I will find them less shocking this time around, and enjoy them all more. I saw it as a laugh track moment the first time around... but it also made me snicker about whether PJ was reading our thread ;~D.... I think I just resented that PJ made all the jokes that we could have made here!
To: HairOfTheDog
You know, now that I think about it, you are 100% correct about the maps. In the extDVD, it even suggests the maps are of Bilbo's hand. Perhaps it is just the fashion of the age to draw maps like that, and perhaps Bilbo used a 'standard' map with his own annotations detailing his journeys. It would also seem reasonable that the HMoG (hunky men of Gondor) would have their own Gondorized map... of a more useful scale. Why would Isenguard be on a map carried around by HMoG Rangers on the eastern borders? Excellent, excellent point, Hair.
To: 2Jedismom
What are you talking about??? For instance:
1 the "Halloween scene" in the Marshes....Hmmmmm I wonder if Hair liked that scene.
2. Is 2JM satisfied with the way Merry's gash looks?
3. Gimli eating in Edoras.....that's g'nad!
4. Gimli axing orcs.....that's g'nad
5. ksen and Corin......Elrond's butt still looks big.....
...and so forth.
No, I didn't get any popcorn. Today was Goodie Day at work and I was stuffed already!
To: HairOfTheDog
look in the appendices regarding dwarves. Will do. Many things that once were have now been forgotten.. glad JRR thought to write them down. ;)

ARGH!!! SOLD OUT! The 6,7 and 8pm shows! All sold out at 2 cinemas!I just called the theater where we're planning to see it tomorrow at 2:45 pm. She said there were still 260 seats available out of about 300! I don't think we'll need to break our necks to get there, but I'm going to go just after noon to buy our tickets anyway!

didn't Legolas get in the best jabs? With the knives? Or are you talking about that "You look terrible" line?
To: Overtaxed
1 the "Halloween scene" in the Marshes....Hmmmmm I wonder if Hair liked that scene.I think if it lasted longer, it could have been a good "PJ is going Halloween on me again" bathroom break moment in the film.
To: Overtaxed
The "You look terrible" line, and the "Shall I get you a box?" line.... Hehehe
