Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Very cool stuff to have, and always fascinating to read any tidbits about family history.... I typed up and put together a bunch of really old writings about my Mom's side a few years back, and interviewed my grandma to fill in the blanks before she died.... I am so glad I did. There are letters and accounts of my great grandparents coming over from Norway.... stories of what they decided to bring... His carpenters tools, and a description of the food.... all fascinating details to know now.
I haven't done my dad's side yet. He thinks it isn't interesting, so I have to get him past that so he'll tell me... It will be fascinating to someone later.
What is your plan for yours?

OH, there is so much more here to talk about! I am fascinated! We need to get together for this.
I have got my mother's paternal side to immigration in the mid-19th century. Mother's maternal side goes back as well as any of it can get for about 8 centuries. There's paperwork for more but I'm not sure about the authenticity myself tho, some of the family is certain it's good. My dad's family is like yours - a dead end - except for a few interesting details. Nothing really prior to the 1870's. Sad really, there is not oral history in that family. There is much oral history in Grama's maternal lineage. She was native American and the tradition of keeping oral history was still very much a part of life for her. So, I've heard a lot but need to get it written.

Oh, Bear, bizarre thing about my posts will be that I posted for about 2 or 3 days then had 2 weeks away with my Grama for Christmas. Back for about 2 days and then back down to care for stuff at Grama's house. I bounced in and out for January. Remember when we had our moot I even was down to be with grama after we left you and Rose.

I'm doing good...the boys stayed up late and watched Jonah. Get this. My mom, who gave me my DVD player that won't work, bought THEM a tv/dvd (the kind that goes in the car)! It's got a nine inch screen, which is fine for their young eyes, but I'll have to have it like 6" from my face to use it! LOL
Anyway, they stayed up late watching it, so they are still asleep.

LOL! That's what grandparents do. My 2 nephews are getting far more than I ever got LOL
I still haven't watched Jonah yet. I bought it a while ago but just haven't gotten around to it.
