The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

61,758... which makes the total for the day 1,410.
I'm exhausted! I feel like we've been at a marathon dance or something.

NES managed 203 posts for the day. As of midnight, the HH is 540 posts behind the NES on the Road to Implosion.

BTW: What is the significance of "implosion". People have been speaking of it as if when we get to a certain number we disappear?
To: Wneighbor; HairOfTheDog
Ha! We should leave some for the others to do!
I'm trying to find your first post for Hair, do you know whenabouts it was?

BTW: What is the significance of "implosion". People have been speaking of it as if when we get to a certain number we disappear? We aren't exactly sure what will happen. Supposedly the thread will only accept somewhere around 65,000 posts. When it hits the limit we don't know if it will self-destruct or lock up or what.
To: HairOfTheDog
The precious to end all precious. Sort of like Smeagol falling into Mt. Doom.

Maybe we don't want to know!

I've been able to get my mother's paternal line traced back four generations, which takes them past Emancipation, which is the first Big Step in black genealogy. My mother's maternal line is a bit more of a puzzle, but I recently heard from some of those folks --- they were having a family reunion, and got ahold of inquiry letters I wrote years and years ago, and called me with questions.
My personal fantasy is to join the Daughters of the Republic of Texas ...
My father's family is full of dead ends and weird surnames and surname changes, but more of them are still around. One of my father's cousins, who had a lot of pertinent information, lost everything in a flood a few years back. Thank goodness she got out okay (she's a feisty bird, as so many of my father's female relations were/are), but I blame myself for that stuff being gone forever ... I could have copied it, I should have preserved this precious history.
My father's sister died recently, and I'm hoping she has pictures I can copy and preserve. It probably means another trip to San Antonio, and more Mexican food at our favorite restaurant ... I'm sure the Bear will be most reluctant to drive down ...

People have been speaking of it as if when we get to a certain number we disappear? That's what they been tellin' me. You mean they been pullin' the wool over my eyes?

Well, I went to the midnight showing of TTT. It was just before or after that. I was lurking from the end of the old thread into this one so very diligently. And I'm not sure how long I waited till I finally jumped in.

They seem serious about it. And you don't wear wool in the summer.
