The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I need some biscuits, gravy, bacon and hash browns if there's any left. Thanks Ruthy.

"Whistling women and crowing hens never come to no good end"

ROTFL!! The first time I ever heard that was in 1974! I was just out of college, working at a lumber company working their new phone system and radio for outside salesmen. I always whistled or hummed; it was just something I did without realizing it! An older black woman who worked there used to say something very similar to me, but it was 'cackling hens'. I just laughed and kept on whistling!

They should be...they're cookies, not rolls or bread, so they won't go stale as fast and they are packaged in baggies.

I hope so!

ksen, do you have a really big griddle? Steve does...a huge one.

I bought myself a Calphalon double griddle that is just awesome! I had to spend the big bucks on it because it was the only griddle I could find that had handles that were perpindicular to the pan rather than the kind that stuck out at the ends. That kind wouldn't fit on my stove!

This one is great though, and I'd be happy to pack it in my suitcase for Entmoot. That might be fun for the folks doing x-rays of baggage, huh?

My morning is going great! Matthew is sitting right beside me doing his schoolwork and I'm helping him. He's learning how to properly do a title of a book. He was so cute writing, that I took a picture of him...

Joshua (who has dreadful dry cracking skin) is enjoying a soak in an Aveeno powdery preparation and playing with his toys in the tub!

My kids are doing math right now. Today is Joseph's first day of Algebra, and Clare is working on Geometry. Both are lounging while they work, J on the couch still in his PJs and Clare in SSQ's 'gravity recliner' wrapped up in her Mega Tokyo blanket. And I, still in MY jammies, freeping away! Ah, the joys of homeschooling!

I saw the movie on Friday night at the Draft House

< blink > < blink >

The Alamo Draft House? In Austin? Wneighbor and her daughter, and myself and my wife, met there for the 7:00 pm showing Friday night. We had a mini-mini-Moot... if we'd known you were going to be there we could have had a mini-Moot! ;)

Congratulations on winning the trivia contest! The best I ever placed was 10th... just not fast enough, I guess. :)

Yep, it's great! Matthew just finished with the "handwriting" part and now he's taken his books to the couch to read. Then we're going over cause and effect. It'll be review for him, because I kinda read ahead and start talking about what he has coming up in his curriculum weeks in advance. I just talk about it whenever I see the opportunity, so that when he is confronted with it in "school", he feels like "Oh, this is easy!" I don't think he realizes that I've been prepping him all along! LOL

GOOD MORNING ALL!!!

Hope everyone's had a good weekend. Here on the Texas Gulf Coast it is cold and wet...bonechilling and miserable. I love that pic of Frodo and Sam, but don't remember seeing that moment in the movie, unless it happened so quickly I can't remember. I love the expression on Frodo's face...Is that article SERIOUS??!!?? How stupid can these info-infidels get???? Its either a way to rile the Tolkien fans, or a one of the dumbest journalists I have seen (and that's saying a lot!)

Over on Khazad-Dhum, the conversation has turned towards ROTK...everyone is guessing that aside from Frodo's final story line, Aragorn is the other main theme. I think the problem with LOTR is that there are so many subplots going on that are so interconnected, leaving out the heart of the subplot generates a feeling of emptiness.

Wish I could go to the Moot...won't even be able to go to my church's Synod, which will be in Florida this summer. :< :<

Anyway, just dropping in to say hi!

There are some h/s coops up in Westford, but that's about 45 mins. away. I haven't found any classes in which our kids would be interested yet.

We're going to see if Clare can start some classes at the Community College next fall. I don't think she has to be 16 to do classes there as long as she passes the 'qualifying exams' in Math & English. I'm sure she won't have a problem with either one. We're going to have her do Chemistry there so she can get the lab class. She may do Physics there as well, but later on the following year.

Yep, the community college here in Tulsa actively recruits homeschoolers...they allow them at age 15.

It should start any minute now...

I heard they are going to make another movie with Vin reprising his role.

Yes. Apparently he was under contract with the studio to make another film... they offered him a sequel to "Pitch Black", or a sequel to "The Fast & The Furious". He chose to make a sequel to "Pitch Black". So far as I know it's a done deal, but I don't know when it is scheduled for release!

Morning Alkhin!

RIMMER: Morning, Lister! How's life in hippie heaven, you pregnant baboon bellied space cookie? What's the plan for the day then? Slobbing in the morning, followed by slobbing in the afternoon, then a bit of a snooze before the main evening's slob? God, you're a disgrace to the species.
