The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Even though I was the supermodel build growing up, all of the guys who thought (and still think) I am such a wonderful woman and friend will line up to date women like her.

Another thing I've noticed may times.

FOTR tied with Spiderman for its 2nd award, favorite motion picture. Not bad at all.

That one's my alpha-male (seriously alpha!). I posted him here by mistake...I was trying to post him to the fund-raising thread for the matching dollars, but got all mixed up as to what thread I was on and posted him here by accident.

I'm getting old.

I finally got him posted over there for the matching contributions, and I got my female (Emma) posted over there too (they're both on my Freep page as well).

he's a handful!

Is he ever. He's very emotional, which is why he can look so happy (he also can smile). When he's happy, it all hangs out there -- complete and total glee.

Maybe it's just the impact of innocence...though he's been guilty of plenty naughtiness in his day.

Ok...I don't have time right now to catch up on all the posts because it's 12:42am and I'M STILL UP FOR SOME CRAZY REASON!

But I wanted to post some questions/observations from my NINTH screening today before I forgot them.

1. I had heard from someone (not sure where) that when Gandalf fought the Balrok (no idea how to spell that) he "recovered" over in Lothlorien (again..spelling?). Is that true? Because I just now noticed that the what I mistook for a grey cloak before when he first met up with Gimli, Aragorn & Legolas in Fangorn..is one of the Elven cloaks. I noticed the leaf clasp. Which led me to think...was that one of those "fill in the blanks" moments where it could have happened but Jackson didn't show it? How long was Gandalf there for? It would have only been about 3 days according to the movie's time. But I know he didn't have that cloak at all until this movie.

2. I can't remember if I ever said this, but I noticed Aragorn's arm braces (or whatever you call them) at the very beginning then again when he mounted the horse and they were Boromir's :-)

3. The horse that comes to him. He called it by name. Where was it from? Was it the horse Eomer gave him? I don't think it was....or was it from the first movie? Or something I just didn't get?

4. I hadn't caught the warm "arm-length hug" Legolas gives Haldir before. Thought that was nice.

5. Has anyone claimed Eomer yet? Wow.

And with that I'm going to bed now!

Hi DT. You were up late, I'm up earlier than usual. About your questions...

Galadriel saw Gandalf on top of the mountain in her mirror. She sent an eagle to pick him up. He arrived I think the day after the other guys left. The fellowship spent several days on the river before parting company. Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli also spent about 3 days trailing Merry and Pippin across Rohan so there was more than a week maybe 2 between the fellowship leaving Lothlorien and Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli meeting Gandalf.

I keep wondering about that horse thing in the movie. In the book Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli are loaned 2 horses, Hasufel and Arod. Aragorn rode Hasufel, Legolas and Gimli rode Arod. I keep waiting for Hair or one of the other horse lovers to tell me why Aragorn calls that horse at the river by a different name. He's supposed to have ridden Hasufel all that time. Why would a horse he's only ridden a short time know him so well? And if he's calling that horse some name - sounds like Brego... is that some elvish word or something? His horse's name is supposed to be Hasufel.

As for the arm things. He may or may not have received those from Boromir. Aragorn has already spent time in Gondor doing battle for Gondor in his much younger years. He knows who he is. He may have picked up any items of Gondor at any time. When he was younger he served both Theoden's father and Boromir's grandfather under another name. In the movie I haven't heard any of that referred to and it's a relatively obscure thing in the appendices of the books. But, definitely of importance.

BTW Good morning... to DT and anyone else who's up.

Corin, is everything okay with all your family members? Been praying for them all. Are you able to answer the phone once again with fewer worries?

Let me go ahead and send you a little breakfast out to tide you over till Ruthy gets her real breakfast done. How 'bout some ham and eggs with hash browns and cheese all rolled up in some nice fresh hot tortillas with some good hot salsa for a cold morning? Coffee and juice to go along with that? Will that hold you till Ruthy gets real breakfast made?

Wneighbor: I think he got the gauntlets (sp?) from Boromir after the he was killed by the Orcs in FOTR-movie. Short scene of him buckling them on.
In ROTK-book, Aragorn get his own horse from the rangers he meets up with on the ride back from Helm's Deep. Wonder if that will be in movie version. Only 11 months and six days to wait.

You're right! I had forgotten about seeing him cinching down those gauntlets.

So you think maybe this is supposed to be Aragorn's own horse that gets there somehow? That part has really baffled me but since I'm not a horse person I just ignorred it.

but the more I see the film the more bizarre Theoden's behavior seems. The guy almost seems bi-polar.

If they'd left Erkenbrand in, Theoden wouldn't be bi-polar.

Good Morning, everyone!

LOL Almost spit my tea all over the keyboard. You are so right about that. I really hate that one scene with the light shining in behind Theoden and what's-his-name, Hama's replacement, is armoring him. Nothing else anymore that I don't like in the movie but I want to slap Theoden in that one place. Good Morning.... I'm outta here on my way to work now.

Nope, but then, I'm probably the furthest away from you, so I guess that's not surprising. Maybe today!

I refuse to go to theaters without stadium seating.

Good thing you don't live here, then! We have one (count it, ONE!) theater in the whole state with stadium seating, and it's about two hours away, as I recall, possibly more than that. The only multiplex in the state, too, I think!
