The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

My brother Ramius has the red leather copy.... It is nice and sturdy with good heavy binding and good paper. I wouldn't worry about reading it if I owned it. He's read it and handled the maps, and they aren't like bible paper. If you don't intend to sell it later for top dollar, I would say get it and use it and enjoy it!

This might be a situation where it really pays to go to the book store and touch and feel them. It is hard to measure them online.

Lf; cliff notes got me through shakespeare but LOTR, somehow that sounds, well, all wrong.

The atlas of middle earth is fantanstic, after making do with the little maps in my pb editions, it was a real eye-opener.

We thought you might be a bit brighter than to go out without protection.

Can't wait for the next Potter.... my boy Gary Oldman's gonna be Sirius Black. *swoon*

That will be great. I only read all of the books this summer. I was almost done with Azkaban when "Order of the Phoenix" came out. That's ok; I had to finish "Goblet of Fire" and wait until Clare had finished before I could start on it anyway.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the books. SSQ hasn't read them, so we're doing them now as a read-aloud, even though the kids and I have read them all.

I think Gary Oldman will make a good Sirius! I'll be curious to see who they cast as Delores Umbridge in the 5th movie!

Hullo! I am exhausted!

Went to church this a.m. Choir was doing a special musical service, then there was a picnic afterwards. A good time was had by all. Then went to brother-in-law's house. He helped me fix a spot on the van where the paint was peeling (remnants of wife hitting my car that I'm not ready to spend $400 fixing).

Then, since Luke had been asking for days, took the boys to King's Dominion. Got on one ride with Luke. Got off, called Jr. and said "we're going home." Luke was way too tired and hungry and I was just too tired to deal with it.

He's finishing dinner and will be going to bed soon. I may not be far behind.

300WM; the folding stock version would work as well. Do they make 'aimpoint' sights for a 12g.

There are various top and side-folding stocks for Remington and Mossberg pumps. If you want any kind of optical sight, you'd need the side-folder. There are also a number of mounts available that would handle optics with Weaver-type mounts.

If you have a Remington 870-type, there are aftermarket deer-hunting barrels with a cantilever Weaver mount on the barrel itself. Lots of tricks you can do with a Remington or Mossberg.

Thought of y'all this mornin'. Choir did a rather up tempo praise and worship concert/service. Then we had an all church picnic w/BBQ and baked beans. It was all a pentecostal dwarf could ask for...

I always loved the Sunday morning Jazz service during the Jazz festivals my mom went to.... You knew it was gonna be a good service when there were trumpets in the front by the altar, and they handed you a fan to cool yourself with when you walked in. They don't hand out fans at Lutheran services.... no matter what the weather.

A lot of our music is pretty upbeat. But this was cool 'cause they told everyone to come in jeans and they just made it a real casual event.

OK here are the shots of our morning on the lake. Clare and I were naturals at paddling.

On the other hand, It took me two tries to get back into the boat during the 'wet entry'.

The first time I got onto the boat, but in trying to turn around, went right over the other side!

The picture is of the first try, my best side of course ;o) though SSQ didn't get the pic of me going back in. He came and took over for the instructor so Bill could teach some others. I got back in on that second try. When I got myself turned around back in the seat I just yelled "I declare victory!"

I didn't feel so self-conscious about having trouble hauling myself back up when I saw several other folks (skinny ones, too!) having trouble as well. It was a fun morning.

I didn't mean for the pictures to be so small. They were regular size when I uploaded them to York, cause I had cropped and re-sized them before I did it, and they showed up the normal 3x5 in my files.

certainly do... got an AMT that works great...

adaptive reuse of indigineous materials is an admirable trait, one that more should emulate

that's part of bein' cheap, and bein' a Marine, cuz we never had the cash to buy new...

Great shots! - Sounds and looks like a fun thing to do!

Funny about them loading small.... You don't for future reference, have to resize the pics before loading them to york, because york shrinks them to 3x5 anyway, no matter how big they are (I will still often crop for composition, I just don't worry about the size).... not sure what happened with yours, unless maybe you were zoomed in when you resized yours on your machine? - its a head scratcher.
