The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I have gotten through the suffering and early death of the jockeys chapter.... and now have moved on to the house on the hill with the red carpet where those that can still walk spend their galloping money!

Headin' back outside!

I like Patrick Bergin. Didn't he play one of the discoverers of the source of the Nile in the movie Mountains of the Moon? He also played one of the rogue IRA terrorists, along with Sean Bean, in Patriot Games.

I think leaving Rickman and Oldman off was not a mistake. I don't think they would be considered obscure at this point.

And oh that voice: Alan Rickman, Obscure British Actor

You got that one right! I tried to read Thomas Hardy's "Return of the Native" once, and just could NOT get into it! I found it on audio-tape at our public library read by Alan Rickman. TWELVE audio tapes!! I was in heaven!

Don't I feel silly- spelling the man's name wrong. I'll try again, mmMMmmm Patrick Bergin also in Sleeping With the Enemy and the made-for-TV Robin Hood with Uma Thurman. The very best version of the story ever, and it's not out on DVD. *pout*

Rickman and Oldman are on the list, although you're right, they're not very obscure anymore.

The fam watched Dragonheart this afternoon and one of the actors looked familiar. Drove us nuts trying to figure out who it was, and it was, of course, another yummy, obscure British actor who's in tons of movies: Jason Isaacs

Jason Isaacs

Ah yes, Lucius Malfoy! I believe he is also playing Captain Hook in the new Peter Pan which comes out around Christmas. Then he'll be back in Prisoner of Azkaban next spring. Did you recognize him as the brutal British Dragoon colonel in The Patriot?

Reckon that was a behavioral protest or did we just miss his signs? Wife was right by the back door. Do I need to call the pet shrink?

Corin, I hope your Sam is not developing the same "behavoral protest" program that Smeagol has. I have learned that when she gets peeved it is just as well to let her stay mostly outside for several days until she gets over it. That dog has a memory like an elephant. No behavorist can tell me any different.

And she gets peeved when anyone else shows up that gets attention she thinks should be hers.

Hello and afternoon, all! I had to drive to pick up my brother so there went my day, down the drain. At least I'm home, and out of my dress clothes, now!

BTW, did you ever describe the little red dress that you want? Do you have a picture of what you want? And when is that wedding that is coming up? And are you planning to wear the little red dress then? We have to make sure you get what you need for this wedding.

I was tickled this morning. I got back into one of my favorite summer dresses that I hadn't been able to wear this year. Yea!! Tho, it was too tight to go ahead and wear to church, still it zipped and fit again. :-)

LOL, you and I must be the only ones here. And I was about to shut down and go home because no one was here to talk.

But, I have been wanting to make sure you are ready for this wedding that is coming up. Hence, previous question/post.

No, no red dress for the wedding, I need something summery for that. I haven't really got any ideas what I want either for the wedding or the red dress. Maybe I'll be daring and get something that only just covers my knees.

We are covering knees? That doesn't sound as "little." I was looking to see if you liked this:

It comes in cherry red. What is shown is bright coral - more pink.

Yeah, I'm at work. It's quiet enought that we should be able to get some in later, though.

Is your opponent still reading?

Yes, that was not a "you-and-me" we, that was a "she-and-me" we. :-)

Hair is still reading, last I heard, and I'm waiting for the boss to leave.

Here is a longer one. But, it seems maybe too long. Way way past knee.

That's a good thing to be doing! Has she caught up to where you were in the book yet? Or are you re-reading with her?

I'm waiting for her to catch up. This being the middle of my workweek, I don't have a lot of time to read anyway.
