The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Hehehehe - I like your logic, but the reality is you will still spend the same going to see RoTK a few times and popcorn, etc,.- on TOP of going to the big shindig and on TOP of going to Entmoot! *cracking up*

Good morning/afternoon, all
It's been a hectic day already... I'm waiting to hear about an interview I'm supposed to have sometime this afternoon. It's a pro-forma kind of thing, if I don't totally disgust them then I start work Monday. It's not the job I was hoping for, but it's a job, and a relatively long term one at that... 4 to 6 months with the likelihood that it will be extended. Work will involve leading a team of technicians providing PC support at a hospital here in Austin. I'm not crazy about it, but it's a paycheck, which is better than the alternative.
Wishing it was 5:00 pm so we could be on our way to meet Wneighbor at The Movie!
Have a good day all!

Which hospital??
Will you actually work for the hospital?

what cookies, 2J, lembas?
To: 2Jedismom
Breckenridge, most likely... it's owned by Seton Healthcare network now. I would be working *in* the hospital, but my actual employer will be a company subcontracting to another company which is subcontracting to another company which is contracted by the hospital to provide PC support.
I'm still waiting to hear when, where, and with whom my interview this afternoon will be. I'm wondering to myself how they expect me to prepare for the interview, when at this rate they're likely to give me about 1 hour notice? It will take a half hour to 45 minutes just to get there from where I live.

You're a med-tech then?
BTW, my mother went to Seton Nursing School back in the late 50s...she is/was president of their alumni association (not sure right now)...

You're a med-tech then?Nope... I support PCs, when I can't find a job supporting Unix workstations. I'm a computer nerd, through and through! This job though, will be supporting PCs located in a hospital.

Hi, Bear.
Since my daughter told us that "Signs" would probably be too scary, my wife and I watched "Minority Report" last night, which I don't think was much of an improvement on that issue. Tho I thought it was pretty good.
I liked that they had been able to select these people who had this special ability to see future murders in their minds. Kind of like Larry Niven's concept that it would be possible to breed people to be lucky.
I saw that it was based on a story by Phillip K. Dick, who was a definite weird person. Was Dick a commie, do you know, as a quick glance at Google indicates such? Interesting story, though.
To: Sam Cree
I don't know much about Phillip K. Dick...I've always wanted to read his work. But I love the movie Blade Runner which was based on his story "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?". Has anyone read that? How is it in comparison with the movie?

I am brand new here but I do highly recommend seeing Signs. Do not be fooled by the misleading title. The movie is not so much about crop fields as it is about the Mel Gibson's loss of Faith in God.

I've been pondering a similar question... if the Orcs once were Elves, are they relatively immortal, like the Elves are? That's another good question. Pinging Jen for when she is out on parole....

Hi Sam!
Rose and I saw both "Signs" and "Minority Report", and enjoyed both of them. I would definitely recommend seeing "Signs". It is somewhat scary... more "tension-building" scary than "scary" scary, if that makes sense. But, I think the theme of a person finding his lost faith is very powerfully done, and makes it a very thought-provoking movie.
I haven't read much about Philip K. Dick's politics; I have read that he had some mental problems along the lines of schizophrenia or bi-polar disorder, and that he died relatively young (in his early 50s). I haven't read any of his fiction; it's the sort of "what is reality?" stuff that just doesn't appeal to me. It makes for good movies, though!

Welcome Festa!
I can't wait to see Signs. The DVD I bought should be arriving in about a week.

Welcome Festa! You'll like it here...everyone is so nice and welcoming :-)
Yes, Signs is definitely about more than just crop circles. The message is really powerful.
To: RMDupree
Hang in there! I freak out when I take my cats to the vet's. I don't know how I'll be with an actual child! :-(
To: Festa
Welcome Festa...
Be sure you go back and read the other two Hobbit Hole threads, so you don't discuss anything we've already discussed before...
ROFLOL!!! I'm just kidding. It'd take you too long to read approx. 60,000 posts and anyway, we re-hash the same things over and over and we like doing it!
