The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Good morning, Hair.

Our monitor had a problem that sounded real similar to that recently. I thought it was the monitor, but it turned out to be the video card, which my wife figured out, luckily that was under warranty, the Dell guy came out and put in a new one.

Yes, come in, the lady Hole dwellers sure seem to have alot of tomboy qualities. My daughter does too, which I like.

How long is JenB quarantined for anyway? I hope Mom lets her come to the entmoot next year.

Well, your breakfast is making me realize that I am finally hungry.

Here is a question I pulled from today's Daily Tolkien article:

I wonder if when Orcs are slain they go to the halls of Mandos, just like the Elves. After all, they are elves at heart, right?

What DOES happen to the orcs when they die?

I have a dig camera... but don't know how to post photos. But, I KNOW that bear has to know how to do that. So, if I get the photos.... I know he can get 'em posted. My experience is limited to attaching to emails.

Ya'll need to educate me on some of these things that are out of my field of expertise.

What's the story with JenB? Or if it's too personal to relate, I understand!

If you don't have any squirrels in your neighborhood, you can still watch them on the web at BOB'S SQUIRREL HOUSE! Click on the picture to see them. These are Fox Squirrels in Austin, Texas.

Aaaaggggghhhh!

Do you think fishing line and all that stuff makes a good decoration? I don't know...

You might be surprised Sam. I don't know specifically about the fishing line, it's hard to see anyway, but since my interests run definitely toward real outdoorsy type things instead of the ultra-feminine, and yet, I am still of the feminine persuasion, I've done a lot of nice decorating with unusual stuff. Rope, western paraphenalia, dead tree parts, and yes, shed deer antlers.

I'm haven't got my new house going yet, but my old house was a dilapidated farm hour in the country and that stuff looked excellent out there. And even my girly lady friends like my stuff - oh, and all regular guys did.

I didn't hoofbeats because I had the volume off last night since Glen was asleep and isn't feeling very well. But I did notice the Shadow that passed over the screen when the Black Rider approached or passed me while I was hiding.

I'm going to check the website (www.lordoftherings.com) and see if they have any tips or cheat sheets!

"my old house was a dilapidated farm hour in the country and that stuff looked excellent out there."

Sounds like a place where you can have peace of mind.

My daughter is pretty much of a tomboy, yet she is also extremely feminine. 'Course I think the sun rises and sets on her, so I'm not too objective here.

You know what website I find really helpful? I go there a lot for my PS2 games, but they have tips for PC games as well. BUT...there are TONS of pop-up ads so if you can put up with them, it's a great site. Cheat Code Central

I was just thinking.....when THE Entmoot finally arrives, should I have laptops and internet connections ready for everybody? That way we can all sit in the same room and post to each other, or chat with each other in Yahoo!Chat.

I'd hate for us all to get together and not have any actual WORDS to say to each other. Maybe I'll stock up on notepads so we can pass notes to each other. ;^)

I suppose we need some old books and magazines lying around, too.

We also need to take up a collection and buy one of those theater-size popcorn machines, and lots of coconut oil for popping. We scoff at cholesterol and triglycerides here.

We also need a few model vintage warbirds and modern American military aircraft hanging from the ceiling. And I'll donate a PC that does nothing but play that AC-130 FLIR footage in a continuous loop. A reminder to the world that American justice can reach out of the night sky and take orcs in their own parking lots.

I wonder if he's still wearing Boromir's gauntlet.

Next time you see TTT look at Aragorn's arms while he lays dying during the flash-forward scene with Arwen.

'Nilla wafers

Yes! I could see that. Flat though...FOTR states they are very thin.

Flat beignet!

Yes! It wasn't exactly how I see it in my mind's eye, but really not a bad interpretation!

Maybe something sconelike?

Yes, I think a scone recipe might work...but made like a cookie. Scones are pretty thick, aren't they? The one's I've seen are like an inch thick.

Not crumbly. Wouldn't travel well.

Good point! I think I've reasoned that out before, but can't seem to get it out of my brain that it's crumbly!! I think it's hard.

Yumm! I've always imagined them being shortbread like

Yep, I think that's right. That's how they sound to me too.

Lembas bread cook-off

I think it would be hysterical. Could you imagine the ruckus? LOL It's not so much ksen's wife, but the neighbors reporting us that would worry me! LOL

You can get 50# bags of popcorn at Sam's Club.

I'm about half way through mine.

I wish they made those theater sized poppers in a smaller size...

I love all those patterns...but I still plan to wait to see what PJ has done with it.

There aren't too many places where the clothes are actually described in LOTR...I bet the costume department had a field day with this design!
