Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Here's Frodo in the hurricane!" - Crap - there he goes!ROTFLOL!! Yeah, it's hard enough to get him to stand up straight in a slight breeze!!
He'll ride out the storm at the UPS place. Good thing I packed those Flat Cheez-its, since he'll probably be delayed getting to MBY's house!!
We were in my hometown, 65 miles inland when Camille hit the Gulf Coast of MS in 1969. She was still doing over 125 mph when she came through our town. Daddy herded us into an inner hallway in our house. The danger was tornados, which are ALWAYS spawned in the winds of a hurricane. It was a big adventure for us; I was 16 at the time. The winds were howling outside all night, and Daddy was sitting at the breakfast table looking out the windows. We didn't get worried until about 3 in the morning, we noticed him pushing his chair back away from the windows a couple of feet! HA!
The next morning, we saw that a big pine tree at the edge of the driveway, less than 25' from where he was sitting, was snapped in half. The only thing that kept the top half from coming through those windows was the fact that it was completely wrapped in wisteria vines!

Good luck with the interview.

Would be something to see.... I'd be like your dad. I'd have to watch.
But I have new appreciation this year after tornado season and now this... of how sedate things are here. There is a lot to appreciate in the boring and rainy northwest! Up here, 45 mph winds are the biggest we would expect to see.... of course, 45 is enough to take out a Douglas Fir... Lots of sail area on our trees. But not ALL of them.
Corin - Spamicane? - Did I really see that? ;~D

FYI The patch helped a lot and wearing my glasses seems to have let my eye rest. I don't have near the double vision I was having yesterday. Still pretty blurry, though...like a white haze over everything when I just look through that eye.
My appointment is at 2:15pm. I don't feel as dismayed as I did yesterday. I have absolutely no discomfort from it any more. Whew.

Aye matey! - I bet it heals just fine, just needs time.

...the trolls have scheduled a meeting for 1:00 p.m. Makes me nervous about my 3:30 appointmentWhy not take a 'bathroom break' about 3:20?

I still have the font up to the largest size on the computer...to prevent strain. I'll keep it this way for a while.
What an experience.

Someone must have alerted the trolls about your impending tryst.

Camille must've been HUGH. I seem to remember "her" doing significant amounts of damage in Virginia as well. My brother was in the "Civil Air Patrol" and I remember he went to a nearby town to help in recovery. He described working on the streets and watching hearse after hearse drive by. Looking around some web sites...Camille was Hurricane force in Mississippi, but was downgraded tropical storm and dumped torrential rain on Virginia, West Virginia and Tennessee (maybe NC?).

This is just down the street from my office. This was a pretty common occurrence before the floodwall.

Did I really see that? You said you wanted to watch...

tryst?
I don't think the trolls know. But they are in league with the forces of evil...

How do you think it is to fly through the big storms, like the Hurricane Hunters do? I don't know - but I would love to find out! I would imagine bumpy as heck.... an airplane does not 'feel' a constant wind, only changes in the wind. Like a boat on a river, the airplane moves with the airmass it is in.... aerodynamically, the plane can't tell the difference. Except when at the points where it swirls and changes direction..... I would imagine in those storms it changes rather violently! - But to see the eye from the perspective of the air! - Now that would be something!

You said you wanted to watch... I can't look away....

My flag. It is 3'3" by 6'8".
I believe I would need a full-sized flag pole to fly it...
