The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Hi all, really briefly, I'm still "grounded" but I will try to be around when I can. It's cold and boring here and I've read 16 books in 12 days, most new. Pray that my mother comes back to reality sometime soon, please!

I don't know what to think about the mantle/cloak thing...from what I can tell in the dictionary, they are the same thing...maybe a mantle is dressier?
Anyway, hopefully PJ will give us a glimpse of it fairly early...like at the preview at the end of TTT...like the preview they did at the end of FOTR.
I hope they're going to do that again. IhopeIhopeIhope!

Hi Jen! Thanks for checking in from Angband. Here's hoping you make it out in time for Entmoot. ;^(

This is just dreadful...there have been questions that need answering and we couldn't find you.
Don't ask me what they were...I don't remember now.

mantle/cloak dilema --- You know, it's probably just a personal view, I always think about a mantle having that little short extra cloak over the long cloak. Don't know how exactly to desribe that. Sort of a long cloak - then short shoulder covering part about to just above the elbows. Know what I'm talking about? That's where my mind's eye goes when I hear mantle. --- Some western dusters have a thingy like that.
I know you must all love my descriptive prose.

I know what you mean...I think it's got vents up under it, maybe?? Air holes?
Naw...I like the one that Ruthy posted...that's what I see.
When I see the one that is in ROTK...I'll decide. I really hope it's pretty!

I think a new fashion trend of intricately laced circlets should happen. I love that picture of Arwen!

I really hope it's prettyI can't imagine them not making it gorgeous. It has to be. Even if it ended up not being anyones technical or dictionary description of a mantle the costume designer would have to use liberties and make it fabulous!
I could do that. I think I'd like that job.

Oh yeah...well she looks - um - alarmed about something. And I don't think she wore that outfit in TTT.

There was also some mention of Ughluk and Eowyn fighting, it was action figures or something...I heard about it a long time ago.
To: Wneighbor
There is a girl discussing it on this egroup:
Egroup Site
Take a look at her 1930s "stars" she got off Ebay!!

"50 clear crystal rhinestones. They are faceted, flat and foilback from the 1930,s."
Now even ksen couldn't say these were tacky!
To: Overtaxed
You know, as a long time gardener/food preserver, it seems to me that the lembas question would not be as much cornbread/cookie etc. But how are we going to get our lembas sealed in those mallorn leaves and staying fresh forever and ever.
We must be going to need one of those gadgets that sucks all the air out of the leaf envelopes and some pretty stout mallorn leaves and mallorn leaf sealant for that.
