Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I'm assuming all who contributed and whose names had been in the boxes will get them. I don't know whether to hope for that or not! - I am just thrilled that you got one!
To: HairOfTheDog
It's raining here. Just got back from the bookstores. I got three books at the used bookstore, and a financial aid book at the Barnes and Nobels. And get this; the B&N has Harry Turtledove, one of my top authors, coming in to sign books next week!

Oops I just checked; it was flown over the Task Force Commander's headquarters, not the Base Commander's. Cool nonetheless, huh? I was SO excited!

Well, Suzi, it is very exciting..... amazing that these guys want to send tokens to US..... It is our job to send tokens of appreciation to THEM....
How cool SuziQ - I am sure you will treasure it, and I hope you FLY it! I would.
Cool about the author coming Jen! - I hope that means you intend to go and see him!
SEE Y'ALL Later! - I am off to the beach house!

Good Afternoon to you all....gads, you folks get up early on a Saturday!
I'm getting a late start... adjusting to my hubby back home after a week. Picked him up at the airport last night, went to dinner, which was nice (esp. the Chardoney), rented some movies, "Live From Bagdad" (love Micheal Keaton and all those braclets that Helena Bonham Carter wears...need to find me some to cover up my aging, flappy arms), "Joshua" (very good), and (God forgive me, I don't why I did it) "This IS Spinal Tap".
Many more thanks to all the newly recd. "welcomes". Appreciate the hospitality.
We are hoping to make the Pirates movie this weekend with hubby, my daughter and her husband.
In my new, delivered right to my doorstep, "Entertainment Weekly" they gave it a "C" rating. Of course I haven't forgiven them for their "B-" for "Two Towers", the creeps.
Hope the teen boopers swooning over the "cutey boat" won't distract.
Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

Am I the first to get the gift from the Renegade Chaplain?,/i>Dunno....haven't checked my mail in a week.

Welcome to the Hobbit Hole.
I reckon if'n you've been lurkin' that long it's too late fer me to impress you. But come on in, have a pint (or two). Nice you could join us.
Thanks.
Believe me, I'm impressed. "Flat Frodo" did it for me. That has been one of the funniest items I have read in a long time. Anyone who came up with that had my vote. You guys are great!
To: SuziQ
But the best part was that he sent me an American Flag that had flown over the Base Headquarters at Kandahar Airfield!!! It even still had some desert dust on it!!!SUPER!!!!! And now, you should get one of those triangular glass-front cases to properly store and display your flag. Unless you plan on flying it.
Congrats. Patriotism has its rewards.

Oh my, that is so very cool!

And now, you should get one of those triangular glass-front cases to properly store and display your flag. That's a thought. We already have a nice flag that we fly right by the front door. I was thinking about just hanging this one vertically on the wall with the certificate in a frame next to it. Is that OK to do?
It is truly a lovely gift, and one I'll treasure and of which I'll be extremely proud!

I was thinking about just hanging this one vertically on the wall with the certificate in a frame next to it. Is that OK to do?Sure, that's a proper way to display a flag, too. Don't forget to have that letter/certificate framed, too.

SQ: congratulations, that is a wonderful heirloom that I'm sure you and SSQ will treasure for years to come.
I second 300WM's suggestion on the storage case, I have seen them at gun shows, in a variety of woods, generally with a brass plate for engraving.

Good evening all:
Went to the blood center this a.m.; although there weren't any T-Shirts, I did get the 2 gal pin; now I can get back on track with regular donations.
Went to the Plaza, it's KC's upscale shopping area. Originally built in the 20's it's evolved by different tenants but the same Spanish Architecture. Window shopped, people watched (dress code has sure declined there-guess it's sign of the times) and had a great lunch.
Got a movie for tonight, seems there are a lot more DVD copies than VHS, one of those new fangled things will be my future, bout the time TTT EXT shows up.

Good evening!
I've been battling the weeds today. Squash borers have gotten to the zucchini. Some stuff looks critter gnawed. :(
Miss Pretty Girl is happy that I'm back although I expect she won't like it too well when she gets to ride back tomorrow.
I'm pooped! Need to find something good to watch tonight.

It is in that book that Captain Nemo's history is revealed.Ahhhh, ok. I've seen the movies based on "The Mysterious Island" (one live, one animated) and read the Classics Illustrated comic book, but I've never read the actual book. Of course, they left the stuff about Nemo's background out of the adaptations.
I thought it was a fascinating concept!
Alan Moore is the writer of the comic book. He's perhaps the best writer in comics. Not just today, perhaps ever. This is the second movie based on one of his comics.

You're welcome! :) Steampunk is one of my favorite genres... I don't think they do enough of it.

Heya, just checking in. Did a ton of housework today and also saw T3. Can't believe I'm saying this about a Terminator movie, but I liked it. Some of the fights and chases were just silly, but I really, really enjoyed the ending. Was expecting something a bit more cookbook and was pleasantly surprised. Might go see it again.
To: Lil'freeper
Aw heck. Since I'm here.
To: Lil'freeper
Might as well...
