The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Frodo seemed to enjoy the fireworks. He didn't protest, anyway!
Heading to bed. Hope the animals calm down for you soon! Happy 4th still, for you!!
To: SuziQ
Thanks.... Animals are fine.... just went to check the horses and they are just standing and listening.

Good Morning All:
Back from our walk; Samantha is doing fine; they finished up imitating the homemade version of '1812 Overture finale' about midnight. She did pretty good and the "medicine" stayed capped. She is really groggy the next day so we really don't like to do it, sometimes it is a necessity however.
Hair; great pics, and Giget "I'm not sleepy, I'm not, I'm....". Those buzzing, whislting things are irratiting.
CS: Hang in there, btw, isn't this your last season on the Pool Board? :-)
OT: Good morning & long range weather shows a slight moderation in humidity so HI will be 100-105 instead of 105 to 110. Hill City KS, (western KS) was 109 (temp.), Death Valley (114 temp.), hmmmm.

Good Morning! Glad that Samantha is doing okay. Those noisy fireworks things bother me more than the cat. :)
It's been wet and cool around here for a summer. It's finally gotten into the 90's....that's withouth the HI figured in.
Oh boy! They're bashing Canada on MST this morning. :)
To: osagebowman
HI ranging from "upper 90's to low 100's" today. I have to cut the grass today. :)

isn't this your last season on the Pool Board? Heh...I had a weak moment after our meeting last week because we actually made some progress. I have come back to reality now.
I'm finally up and should have been out working in the yard a couple of hours ago. But I don't want to.
Must....have....coffee....
To: Corin Stormhands
I'm at least getting something done: got more...cookies...going. Doing laundry. Scanned and uploaded a bunch of Frodo pictures. Sister's supposed to be here around 1.
To: Overtaxed
I'm getting things done...made coffee...checked email...
When do you leave? Will you be able to check in from the road.
To: Overtaxed; Corin Stormhands
OT: grass cutting, the endless cycle - fertilizer, water, cut, repeat.
CS: Well, okayyy. I guess taking the ax to the meeting worked.

Flight leaves tomorrow morning at 10:35. I'm planning on taking the laptop....already have the access number entered in Dial-up Networking.
To: Overtaxed; osagebowman; All
Well, if I don't talk to you before then, have a good trip. Hope things work out the way you want.
I got to get up and head out to the yard. Should have known better than to try to hire that Samwise Gamgee after that Baggins feller left. Seems he's been on some sort of "quest" to the end of the world and back...gotten downright uppity he has.
Told me yesterday, "If you think I'm gonna mow your yard in this kind of heat Corin Stormhands, you can kiss my cracks of doom!"
If yer dialup don't work, look for someone with one of these.

Good morning all!

I think Gidget is groggy too.... Still isn't up. Hangover is necessary in her case.... She would have run the fenceline all night outside, spun in place and barked if inside. Horrid creature.
I hope everyone blew their wad last night and they are done.... They went on till midnight. ("We're probably going camping" he says)

Mr. Chance, who gets real nervous too, had a pretty good night. Just one episode of fireworks going off on the next street when he was in our backyard frightenend him. But we kept all the windows closed in the evening and sat with him watching TV (Streets of Laredo) until 11, when the fireworks really slacked off. It was actually pretty tame in our neighborhood, which is good for Mr. Chance. Miss Emma is deaf -- and couldn't care less!!!
To: Scott from the Left Coast
I would trade you a Gidget for a Miss Emma!
This cat of mine could care less, interesting because he is blind but not deaf. Just isn't as easily rattled as some cats.
I am nervous as the dogs.... I worry about fire now in my old age, and it is so dry here. But even younger, I had a fear of them, thought they would blow up on me. I was hit in the leg and burned with a bottle rocket once at a rock concert, but I was an older teen then and already had an established fear.
I love the big shows, just not the personal stuff... If I had kids, I would probably send them up to Uncle Ramius's house for the 4th, lest I shelter them from my own paranoia... I just couldn't watch it. ;~D
I just called up to the beach house and no answer yet. They had people there late shooting the things off... Dad's lady friend's son who is a cop, and his wife were there last night, brought their motor home along to stay over so they could drink and light off fireworks.... Ah yes, explosives and drunk people! [shudder]

I'm not nervous around them, but I sympathise with the animals...and I don't care for all the hubub (explosions) in the neighborhood.
I'm not very fond of the "amateur" fireworks either. I don't get the point...but then, I'm sans-children so am not sensitive to the desire to put on a good show to let the children have fun. I like the professional fireworks on occasion. But once you've seen fireworks a few dozen times, they don't do all that much for you (kind of like seeing a laser light show for the hundredth time). Unless, of course, they're Gandalf's.
I've always liked the less-noisy types of celebrations on the 4th -- brass bands, picnic lunches, silly games like frog jumping contests and three-legged races. Guess I'm dull after all.
To: HairOfTheDog; ksen
Ah yes, explosives and drunk people!
Hey ksen, can we set off fireworks on the beach at Entmoot? ;-)
(I have not made it to the yard. Luke is up and wife wanted to sleep a little longer, she worked late. I'm working on my website.)
To: Scott from the Left Coast; HairOfTheDog
Speaking of fireworks, did y'all see
this?
To: Corin Stormhands
Yaw!..... ya hear about that kind of thing happening out in the country with electric fences....
