The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!
Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I understand you, 2J. And you know that carton and I have had our falling outs as well in the past due to my defense of Hair (the whole censorship battle). I'm glad that things have been patched up between me and her and now I have a good understanding of what makes her tick so as not to offend her purposefully.
That's what I always try to do. I don't think it is necessary to hurt people to get your point across and I think that everyone agrees on that. It has never been the "norm" in the Hole is bash and flame without a care for each other. We can diagree, but we should do it with love and kindness and ABOVE ALL, respect.
As for the "short fuse" - that has a lot to do with the nature of the message board. You have always been one of the most jovial, easy going people on this thread - so when you get mad, it's more shocking to see. And since nothing indicated a "warning sign", it appears as a short fuse when really it had just been lit a while back and nobody saw it.
So, I think that's why the term "short fuse" came into play. We can't see each other's faces, so for all we know all is well in the Shire until BOOM!
A lot has been said in here that was hurtful and stupid. Words said in anger designed to inflict pain on the person who was causing pain in another. This is not right, especially between all of us who have laughed and cried with each other more times than I care to count.
I know that I have come away frm this HORRIBLE experience with a far better understanding of where everyone stands with respect to "hot button topics", etc. Maybe everyone else has too.
I love you, 2J. You've inspired me on many occasions with your dedication to your family and our troops, among other things.
I know all of us can work through this because we are all good people. I want our friendships to mean more than Tolkien.

Corin used to be, for my part. That ended weeks ago, when I asked him to "take back" what he said about my post about g'nad's baby. He basically told me what I could do with it. I did nothing of the sort. I apologized. You asked if it would be too much to ask the Admin Moderator to remove the posts. I said, yes it would. You read into it anything else you've felt.
And as I said to she who is ignoring me, she just showed up at the wrong time. A lot of us thought your response was strange and uncharacteristic. Not just me.
Your post yesterday was not just to carton, but an indictment of all of the "spammers."
I'm sorry 2J. I thought certainly after the project for the troops, the money I sent, the letter I sent (which you wildly praised) and after all we've been through in the past year and a half I've been here that we did indeed have a friendship that was deeper than that. I guess I was wrong.
I wasn't on the first Hole thread, so I admit not knowing your "history" with carton. But I think carton is an insightful (dang near typed "inciteful"!) poster who adds a lot of depth and substance to the threads. I like it when she's here...at least the Smeagol side.
FWIW, I think you're a hoot. I admire you for how you're raising your boys, your commitment to the troops and more.
I'm sorry you no longer consider me a friend. But don't skip Entmoot on my account.

Do the companion plantings help to prevent cutworms?Supposedly so, like planting garlic and marigolds and onions through out the beds. We tried it a few times but usually just went out and picked them off. You only have to do it a few nights really intensive, then they either get the picture and don't come back, or we eliminate the majority of them and their season passes.
I just like marigolds in my garden though...I think they have a great scent. Not too sweet.

A really good rum is Royal Oak from Trinidad. No hang over and a nice, smooth taste.
I never would have discovered it unless my friend trini introduced me to it. :)

Guess you're gone by now. It's raining steadily here too. Guess it's Bill.
Had a call to close the pool. I now get to make the call 'cause when I was gone to KY the guards closed the pool at 1:30 and the sun came out at 2:00. Some Board members pitched a fit. Took us the better part of a three hour meeting to establish a policy. Now, I get to make the call.
Thereby effectively giving me yet another area of my life where I can excel at ticking people off.

It's not an opus of mine. It may be one of Gladys Knight's. Just as she was de-Pip-ing herself.

I just like marigolds in my garden though...I think they have a great scent. Not too sweet. That's a hoot, cause I can't stand the smell of them. Oddly, I love to look at them, and lilies too, but don't like the scent of either of them.
They seem to do well keeping critters away from tomatoes though! I can't wait until we have a flat lot so I can have a garden I can actually see from the back of the house!

When I post my opus, it's going to be the longest, most annoying, most pointless opus anyone has ever seen. It will probably include large portions of my NaNoWriMo novel.
That's how you guys will know you're shut of me. No celebrating until then... speaking of celebrations, all these pints and no wings? What's happened around here?
