Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Dawn: you *may* or may not be disappointed...or at least confused. Elrond is much more 'stately' in the books. Weaving gives him a 'harder edge' like someone who is a lot more experienced and a bit more weary. I liked the way he was done because he brought out the general thoughts of the elves...Bloom is SPOT ON with Legolas though. He was PERFECT.
But my heart is for the Prince of Halflings...

I found it! It's actually in the Prologue!! It's in Merry's notes, I believe:
Only here in the Shire were to be found extensive materials for the history of Númenor and the arising of Sauron. It was probably at Great Smials that The Tale of Years was put together, with the assistance of material collected by Meriadoc. Though the dates given are often conjectural, especially for the Second Age, they deserve attention. It is probable that Meriadoc obtained assistance and information from Rivendell, which he visited more than once. There, though Elrond had departed, his sons long remained, together with some of the High-elven folk. It is said that Celeborn went to dwell there after the departure of Galadriel; but there is no record of the day when at last he sought the Grey Havens, and with him went the last living memory of the Elder Days in Middle-earth.[JRR Tolkien, TFOTR, Prologue, Note on Shire Records]

Sam is a good looking one too. His good heart makes him even more appealing!
My list is: Legolas, Frodo, Aragorn, Sam, Pippin, Faramir, Boromir, Merry.

Sam is cool! Sean Astin is PERFECT PERFECT PERFECT!!! I'm just not too sure about Dom as Merry. I had a completely different perception of Merry.
But my heart has belonged to Pippin since I first read LOTR when I was 13. I am WAAAAAY too much like that character...and he's smart-alecky, clever, and wonderful.

I didn't own the books until just Monday night. As to why I never read them before I have no idea. Just never got around to it.
I'm currently reading "The Hobbit" (I want to read that one first) but I'm not far into it because I just started that one.
My manager here at work just bought the unabridged LOTR books on CD and said she'll loan them to me. I might not read them and wait to listen to them first. I like listening to audio books at work...helps the day go by faster.
To: Alkhin
They come in pints?
To: Dawntreader
You're probably right that Sam's goodness is what makes him so appealing to me. *sigh*
Good but not dull, sensitive but not simpering, simple but not dumb. Fetch my meds!
To: Alkhin
I agree that Sean Astin plays Sam perfectly. :)
Sorry to see you run off, but I will take a pint!

I'd best be off as well. I've got to stop at Best Buy and get a mouse for my home PC.
See you all later tonight if I can get here! :)
To: Dawntreader
Alkhin whispers to Pippin as she leaves Don't tig a tog too much! And smoke me a kipper, I'll back for breakfast...
Dawn: fabulous! (It's all about Pippin!...LOL!!)
Pippin's thinking: 'This would be much more solemn if I couldn't see straight down her dress!'

I had to refresh one more time and boy, was it worth it. Grainy and small, but that there is my Sam with little Elanor! THANKS! I've got to run!
To: Alkhin; Overtaxed
And I broke down when Elrond asked her if he had her love too!!Ugh! At the risk of rekindling the Elf-bashing, I wanted to slap Elrond for saying that. I was thinking, "What a manipulative jerk!"
