The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

My kids were always warning their friends not to let me know if they hadn't seen Gone With The Wind. I always made any who hadn't seen it sit down and watch. Most of them ended up liking it in the end.Uh-oh. Now you've done it.
I didn't really like GWTW. Scarlet is too much of a brat to take!
To: PayNoAttentionManBehindCurtain
On the other hand, I wouldn't mind taking Rhett...
To: RosieCotton
I agree with you on both counts:). GWTW, IMO, is one of those movies where you need to have read the book first. It is so much better, and although Scarlett is a brat, you can understand better why, when you read the book. I don't think the movie got that across to well. But she is a brat, no doubt. And Rhett....well he is OK:), and even better in the book. Clark Gable without the ears..LOL:)

Does Hair have to fly down there and take you to a pawn shop?Ummmm....yeah...guess so.
To: Overtaxed
I've never been in a pawn shop either. I'm skeered of 'em, too. Mom always told me not to go in them. ;)
To: RosieCotton
Yeah...you never know who the Fat Man will send after ya.
To: Overtaxed
Heh. Exactly!

My sister has that one. Unfortunately, a certain percentage of the time, it doesn't register that you've put a disc in. Just says "no disc". It's a at least a year old, but not THAT old.
But they may have gotten a bum one. I think 2J has the same one and I don't think she's had problems.

I just went out and assessed my post-storm yard. I found out that I left a burlap bag folded up in the wheelbarrow all night and it was sitting in a pool of rain water up until just now. Well, it was this burlap bag that I used to let the boys play with Jar Jar and Roy on, on the screened-in porch. It was rather, uh, poopy. When I pulled it out of the water in the wheelbarrow, I hung it on the fence and sprayed it really well with the hose! It came spotlessly clean! The bag says "Cafe do Brazil" on it.
I love burlap bags. Don't ask me why! Maybe it's because they are big and cost less than a buck! Like "Well, the world my fall all apart, but all is well...I have a burlap bag."
I feel the same way about a 5 gal bucket.

That answers that question, then! It was a good DVD player, and is still OK some of the time...but you have to eject the disc and put it back in over and over until it recognizes it.
Sooner or later they'll have to spring for a new one, but they're putting it off for now.
To: RosieCotton
Have that player here too... working fine so far.
To: RosieCotton
Mine just quit completely. It read the disk after a few tries for a while...then quit all together.
I am interested that it's happening to others...it's just a year old too.

My sister in law laughed at me when she came to help us move yrs. ago. I could not throw away Orville Redenboker Popcor Jars. I had a cabinet full of them, and wanted to take them:). Of course now that I am older and more observant, I realize the jar is the same as Mayo, and others, it was the label that made them look neat to me.

Maybe there was a group of them that had problems? And Bear's wasn't in that group?
I don't think they had a very long warranty, and we didn't keep the receipt so there's not much we can do about it. But it's a shame that it broke so quickly! At least Margaret's is still stumbling along somewhat. It reads a lot more formats than my drive does! I'd be jealous if it worked!

Same one here also. We haven't had any trouble, but we hardly use it.

I'd go for Netflix, but I'm afraid I'd lose something and get in trouble. The nice thing about Netflix is NO LATE FEES! You just don't get the replacement until you send the film back. You can have 3 movies out at a time, and if you've sent 2 of them back, but lost track of the 3rd, as least you can continue to get two other movies!
Can you tell I love Netflix? I watchedThe Scarlet and the Black last night. I just love Gregory Peck! I tried to get To Kill a Mockingbird, but it was about 3rd or 4th on my queue when he died, and suddenly there was a long wait for the film. I'll get it eventually. I think you can try Netflix free for a month to see if you like it. I could really kick myself. I shoulda bought stock in the company when they went public!!
To: SuziQ
How much is it per month, just out of curiosity? I may not watch enough movies for it to be worth it.
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
Don't get me started on Apex players! I bought one last August and the
^$%$#@&^ piece of *(*)@* didn't even last a whole year!
It is now a CD player.
