The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Temperature is 83 inside (fairly comfortable to this southern-AZ gal)but that means we're two degrees away from shutting down. :)

Yes, or so I tried.
Was it done the correct way?
Or am I a fool?

In the 80s here. We don't have an inside thermometer. Maybe a good thing. I'm not sure I wanna know.

Also humid, which makes it worse. I'm dripping. Ugh.

Hi Mrsnad. I've been thinking about the place in your front yard. You said the folks before had a wishing well. Could you do some sort of 'water feature' like a fountain that is recirculating so that new water isn't running into it all the time, the same water just cycles over and over. You could disguise the spigot somewhere in the mix of stuff. I was thinking some rocks around the rim with some aquatic plants; sort of a small pond, you could even put some koi in it! The spigot could be just behind the edge of it, but somewhat hidden by the rocks and plants.

Mrsnad. I like Hair's idea of moving the spigot then doing a birdbath. Hey, it's a water feature, isn't it?

Back! - Bay has his new pads on.... No real time to take pictures or anything bacause I have to go this afternoon on a little road trip. Hopefully they will make him feel better.

Farrier, who was still doubtful when he arrived that Bay really has Navicular did lots of poking with his hoof tester, I think still suspecting that it might be laminitis instead. He didn't find any tender spots on his right foot, but he did find one tender spot on his left sole.... Interesting...

He just chose flat leather pads maybe 3/8 in thick, and filed his toe more in the front than usual. He had rubber wedges that he looked at but decided against. Muttered a lot of things and decided on these.... He said that bar shoes would be wrong for Bay's foot and that Bay over-reaches too much to have them stay on. We'll see.

The lumber you see in the middle-right of the pic is a rough outline of where the extension is supposed to be, so maybe they've already caught the mistake. *sigh*

Have you pointed this out to the contractor? I'm sure y'all are gonna go back out there and check it out today. Is it a slab foundation with filled concrete blocks around the edges of it?

Looks good. Hope the weather holds for you so they can get more work done!

Me too:), I've been grinning all day. Charlie was here earlier, and I feed him lunch. He will be such a good daddy:)

So far Jake P.... something is the name they are leaning towards. Charlie wants his call name to be J.P. What P name goes good with Jake? Oh and he doesn't want it to be Jacob, just Jake.

Jar jar is pirched with all her feathers out, sneezing. Sigh. The medicine didn't help her at all.

Is she allergic to something in the new coop, or did she start this sneezing before you put them in there?

Peter Jackson has put out a combined piece of work that stands up to more than an amatuer viewing -- on so many levels. The bowman, the horseman, the swordsmen, the medieval armor buff and the Tolkien fan

That is what is so fantastic.... The detail and thinking, and expert opinion that went into every last thing. All of the quibbles about plot changes pale in comparison when looking at the overall perfection and obsession with the detail in so much in the project. The work of a lifetime for the craftsman and horsemen and artists involved. They will never be satisfied working on a budget for someone with less patience and vision again. :~D
