The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

but if you're on the property while the subs are working, they're supposed to halt all work for your protection- EEK! I'm glad MA didn't do that when we moved here and our house was under construction!
To: SuziQ
It really is! - It should last me through spring.

Ponies get to eat the sweepings from the truck. Looks like Gidget was checking it out, too! Will she eat the hay?
To: SuziQ
Nice family, Suzi! All of you look very happy. Congrats!

I need to put a tarp over it so it doesn't get dusty. But I have to wait until the horses are in, or they will be too afraid to go in there the first time. Horse psychology. They think blue tarps are evil. But if I put it over while they are trapped in the stalls (picture them quaking at the back wall), and they get to sit and stare at it all night, perhaps, they will walk back out past it and the next night maybe ignore it. That worked last year.

No.... she was just trying to figure out where it came from.
She's funny... She loves to scratch herself on the haystack.... She will just press against it and walk the full length of it. She climbed all over the stack, and will keep checking it frequently for mice.
Can you see her up there? - I wasn't gonna use this pic because the flash didn't go off...

Interesting interview, thanks for the link!
I think every science fiction writer at some point has wanted to go into space. That fascination is what pushed them into becoming science fiction writers. IMO.

Some of what Niven said remind me alot of what you say sometimes.

Hi Sam. I haven't shown up on any of those threads. I'm trying to get the folks in the religion wars to leave me alone. They want to tell me how eeeeeeeevile Harry Potter is.

personally, I prefer the ol' "throw a live grenade on the table and hold the door shut as everyone's tryin' tuh get out..." Well, meeting lasted three hours, but we actually got quite a bit accomplished. Sort of the meeting I've wanted to have for the year and a half since I've been President. There's a lot that plays into this.
Still, it came down to the fact that we're gonna have to get a loan to make it thru the season. I said I wasn't willing to borrow just for operating expenses unless we also borrowed enough to do some capital improvements. I think we'll borrow the money and maybe make it one more season...but I don't know.

So what does hay cost in your neck of the woods? It's going for $6.00 a bale at the feed store. I don't know whatit costs out of a barn or field, haven't bought any in a while other then the occasional one to go camping with.

This was local hay is $3.75 per bale, 60-70 pound bales... Our feed store orchard grass bales are $9 - 100 pound bales, much better hay, but really spendy. That is how I have been living all summer and I can't afford to live that way any more...
The quality of nutrition is medium in this local hay, but with the complete feed I use, and pretty easy keepers, it is definately good enough.

I loved the picture of your family! I can really see us looking very much like y'all when our boys are college age!
And yes, I am homeschooling still...I love learning all this stuff about chickens and teaching Matthew how to look up information by using the index! He got this book...

He really uses it. And if I wonder something, I have him look it up and read it to me! So we both learn something!

If I was rich, that's what I'd be spending my money on.

I'm very tired, so I'm hitting the hay...(since the discussion has been about hay today!)
Joshua hasn't been happy with the new VBS. Cried when he went to bed tonight. I decided it would be better if he stayed home with me tomorrow...the new Baskin Robbins could have opened and we need to check that out, you know.
