Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Well, well. Big'ol and I were sneaksey hobbitses. Just got back from the new house and we have a foundation! Should be able to take some photos tomorrow. We're not supposed to tresspass on the property, especially while the crews are working. So we snuck down the hill from several lots up, hid in the 'open space' forest and watched them pour some concrete. Such fun! But don't tell anyone. ;)

We're not supposed to tresspass on the property, especially while the crews are working. What the heck? We stood there and talked and pointed and redesigned our whole house, and otherwise annoyed our contractor during our whole remodel!

Aaaha, but you don't live in the fascist hell aka the People's Republik of Maryland. I'm not sure if it's a union thing, an insurance thing, or what, but if you're on the property while the subs are working, they're supposed to halt all work for your protection- essentially walk-off the job unless you're escorted by the supervisor. Rescheduling, of course, causes delays. That's why we hid in the shrubberies. Tomorrow we'll go after working hours.
*forced grin* Smile therapy!

the chicks all flew away...Have you ever actually SEEN the checks fly from a wren's nest? We have a bird house that we hung so we can see it from our kitchen table. It is fun to watch Mama and Daddy bring worms, moths etc. to the babies. I have had to chase a sparrow from off the bird house the last week. It would try to poke its head into the house, then would just SIT on top of the house. I'd go out and yell at it to chase it away.
Day before yesterday, I noticed a head peeking out of the hole, and thought it was one of the adults, but then one of them flew up to bring food, and I realized it was a baby.
Yesterday, I didn't hear them or see them, and realized they must have gone. But we never saw them leave! This has happened every year since we've had the thing up. Do they fly off at night, early morning, what?

Kids finished with Harry Potter yet?Joseph is about halfway through, but he had a 1 day disadvantage cause he was on a Scout camping trip til noon Sunday. I'm not sure how far Clare is; I've been hounding her to finish up some Girl Scout paperwork so she can start on her Silver Award project. She's going to make a chain of 1000 paper cranes and send it to Japan to be placed at the Hiroshima Peace Park. She has to get them all folded by the third week in July so we can ship them! She's going to teach some of the girls how to do it, and have a paper folding session a couple of times here. She's going to put up 'donation' boxes at SSQ's workplace, at the Border's bookstore, the public library, and maybe at a Japanese bookstore in Cambridge. She'll make a sign asking for donations of the cranes. There are bound to be some folks who like to do origami who would be willing to do a few.
Did you see the pic of my family?

Who would've thunk it:)Actually, the guy that wrote the book "Chicken Tractor" thunked it! LOL His tractor was just a rectangular bottomless box that had the food and water hanging from top. It was designed for garden beds...actually, 4x10' beds. The chickens are supposed to till up the ground, remove the grass and fertilize it all at the same time. You are supposed to keep throwing litter (like grass clippings) in there till you have a deep mulch. Then you let it sit a while, then you plant right through the mulch.
So I'm not clever, just like to read a lot!

So I'm not clever, just like to read a lot! You're certainly clever enough to know that you could find some information about it, then educated yourself. See, you are homeschooling, too!!

I thought FR was down for a while today, or at least the Hobbit Hole. I was getting ready to take Joseph to the doctor for his physical, and didn't get back on again until just now, so was glad to see it back up.
I got back a little while ago from that restaurant sample trek that I won on that radio contest. I took another homeschooling mom cause my kids weren't interested and SSQ's out of town until later tonight. She didn't even eat anything at most of the places because she's a vegan, and there was NOTHING for her. Even when the places had 'vegetarian' items, they usually had cheese in them or were made with a cream sauce, So she just sampled the wine at several places ;o)
Finally, at the last place we hit, she was able to get a great meal. It was an Indian restaurant, and instead of just a couple of chafing dishes of particular items, they let you order anything you wanted from the menu, and they'd bring you a sample of it. She and I both ordered, though I was about full enough to POP from all the other places. I was just going to let HER eat this stuff; I'm not a huge fan of Indian food anyway. They brought us a bowl of rice, a bowl of Chana Masala (sp) Chickpeas in Masala sauce, and a huge Nan! We both ate some, and there was enough for her to take some home!
I had felt bad that she didn't have much to eat at the other places, but we struck gold at that joint! We had a good time, but it was about 90 degrees and we walked about a half-mile down one side of the street and then back up to the car. So we got some good exercise, but it was HOT!

Hay's all in! It is pretty good looking hay, for local. Good deal. Now a lot can happen and I can survive it.
