Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

That sounds like a hoot!
I have no idea what my days are going to be like, but I can't imagine anything getting in the way of Friday night. I'll touch base on Friday and let you know...
To: Ramius; Sam Cree
Well, it looks like Sam will be out of town on Friday, so we can moot on Thursday.
But, if you like, we can still hang out at Hooligan's on Friday night. Glen will be there - as a matter of fact, he used to play in a band with Mike for many years while we were dating. Now, Mike and Glen still play but in different bands.
It'll be a great time!

Gonna be a scorcher out there, by our standards, at leastYeah, it is pretty hot out there this morning! We had another thunderstorm last night, so it is steamy here too. It is quite a shock to the system after the last week of highs mostly in the 60's!

When the kids were little, we used to go stay in those cabins for weekends a lot and go fishing.
We had a great time and usually caught fish, had fish frys Saturday nights, at the end of the day. But I honestly think the kids' favorite thing was flattening the mosquitos with the wet towels.
I knew I was bringing them up right when they asked if we could sell the house in Miami, and move to Flamingo.

Sure, sounds fine for Thursday, if that works. Sorry I am away this weekend, though.

Woo Hoo! Glad things are finally moving along. When we bought our house 15 yrs. ago, it was in the middle of being built. The builder came to hate me because I showed up almost every day! It's a good thing I did, though. I caught them doing some things that we had changed the orders about; wrong cabinet, paint color, etc. They should be glad I caught it when they had just begun rather than when they had completely finished that particular job!
Good luck!

I have found out that if you spread outboard motor oil all over your body, that mosquitos will not bother you at all.Neither will people, but I guess that's your plan, right? ;o)
To: Sam Cree
No apology necessary, Sam. It just happens that way sometimes.
I hope we get a chance to meet up together before you go though!

Once, when my children were still small, I had a Cuban guy working for me who was going for his citizenship test, and was trying to remember the names of the original 13 colonies.
Just for fun, when I got home that night, I asked the kids to name the colonies.
Well, they listed Israel and Bimini as 2 of the original 13 colonies. I wasn't sure what that said about their upbringing, but, on the whole, I decided it was a positive.
However, not too long after that, they both started private school.

The fishing cabins at Sekiu we went to when I was growing up were definately tacky, I just don't remember squished bugs as being a part of it. I recall the beds all having a huuuuuge dip in the middle that just sucked you in. Felt plenty comfortable after a long day. By 4:00 AM though, you were about ready to get out of that bed.

Good morning everyone...
On using the trusty old dial-up connection this morning. The cable modem connection is not functioning. Called in to Time-Warner's technical support line, and they say the problem is region-wide, across Texas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma. They don't know yet what the problem is, but they're working on it.
Sounds goofy to me. Wouldn't a 3-state-wide cable-internet problem be generating more news? Hmm...
Oh well, hope everyone has a good day!

Oh man! That's awful!
I hope my singing isn't that bad!

Tune it or die!
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
Bear - as someone who lives with dial-up everyday, I know the pain you are going through!
And I agree that a 3 state internet problem would be newsworthy. Hmmm....
To: Overtaxed
eeeekkk!
