Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Well, I have cleared the couch of my new clean folded laundry done today, and now there is nothing between me and a nap!
See y'all later perhaps!

I know it is frightening for ya.... surely you must know *someone* who is not afraid of pawn shop who will go with you?
Or maybe you could just slip them the cash in an alley somewhere.

You know, I didn't even get her name. We talked for about 45 minutes or so and I never thought to ask...If I run into anybody who says they have a relative serving in a combat zone, I'll ask for a name, and permission to send a one-time shipment of poagie bait. They'll think I'm crazy, but this is one of those "random acts of kindness" things the hippies are always talking about.

Need to figure out why my DVD playing software keeps freezing up. Or maybe I should find a program to convert DVD to VCD so I can watch 'em on WMP.What version of playback software are you using? Is there another brand that might work better? Is the BIOS on your DVD drive up to date?
Sorry about all questions and no answers, but those are the obvious places to look first.

To: 300winmag
I've used Maximus DVD, RealPlayer, and Interactive and they all freeze up at some point with an invalid page fault in Kernel32.dll.
When I installed the DVD player, I used the latest software available on their website. I can check again.

Hi guys. We just finished Harry Potter. I feel... drained. And also slightly miserable. That was an emotional roller-coaster ride. We all really got into it, laughing or hating just the way the author wanted. But the death... oh, man, the death that was promised turned out to be the one death I was not prepared to handle and I'm sulking.
So I'm gonna be moody and hang around until I remind myself it's fiction. Oooh, I need to go to England and threaten JK Rowling...

poagie baitSay what?!
As told to me by a Marine, "poagie bait" is a traditional USMC term for edible goodies sent from home. A Marine tradition says it has to be shared with the others in the unit.
But in boot camp, you aren't allowed that stuff. If the Drill Instructor catches you, you have to eat all of it right on the spot.
My friend had an older brother who was also a Marine, and sent him a box of goodies with peanut butter, pickles, candy, and horseradish, among other things, some of which he didn't like. The DI made him mix it in his helmet, and eat the stuff right there.
"Poagie bait" after boot camp is welcome, especially if you share it with your buddies and NCOs.

Hi, gang...today is a good day! Our performance last night went pretty well - the music part was OK, but our stage presence still needs work. We just announced the tunes rather nervously and didn't do much talking otherwise. Ah well. We're improving!
And I got the guitar out and played for a long time today...classical pieces, mostly. I'd forgotten how fun (and how hard!) classical guitar is.
Anyone wanna chat later tonight?
To: RosieCotton
Hi Rosie! Glad your gig went well.
My sister took a guitarist friend to the weekly bluegrass jam last Thursday. I think she's going to take Squirrely the next time she goes.
Maybe a little chat...don't want to stay up too late when I have to get up in the morning.
To: Overtaxed
Squirrely?
Yeah, I can't stay up that late either. Been getting up extra early to walk before work.
To: Overtaxed
I'll check back in half an hour or so...see if anyone's around.
