Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

check... the extension is a great source... just didn't know if there was any variety that was particularly tastey...

This doesn't help but....
We had an apple tree that produced good pie apples - green and verrry tart. If the recipe said "add lemon juice" you didn't have to add lemon juice.
Unfortunatley the tree blew down and I never did find out what variety it was. :(

I pulled some muscles in my back and legs yesterday dragging all those mats around twice... Don't think I will be doing much labor today. Those floor mats for horse footing in the aisle weigh alot, 100 pounds maybe? 3/4 inch thick tire rubber. - And they are cumbersome things that don't cooperate, kinda like moving a body. The stalls are all matted too against the concrete and even thicker mats. I was sore for days after dragging those suckers in there.
Still no sign of that big man when I need him.

OT: "after the 4th of July" no, don't recall you saying that, last I remember, you were in the "not sure" category. Hmm, you planning on taking them up on that? It's 65 here today, a bit overcast, and surprisingly low humidity, yesterday the humidity bottomed out at 15 percent, have to admit, that hasn't happened in a good long while, though.
Hair; 'the land of lost tools' was our place during our 8 years of renovation. When we were finally done and gathered up all tools and hung them up, put them in order, we had an amazing number of duplicates. Not that it is a bad thing, can't have too many tools.
g'nad. That sounds like a good project, we've built a brick sidewalk and patio as well. Got old pavers, most are stamped with mfg. names. Sidewalks took a few inches of gravel then similar amount of sand, then the pavers. One trick is to water the sand well, let rest, water well again. The pavers have held up well, we have torn up one brick sidewalk and laid it again in another pattern, learned a lot from the first one. A long level, used religiously, and making sure every paver is level fore and aft makes for a professional looking job. Yes, a lot of work but, for us, it was quite enjoyable, 'quality time together' is what makes our projects work. Never used any of the power tampers and stuff, prefer the old ways-for one thing they're quieter.

I don't really want to move....been dragging feet on the real estate thing (well it keeps raining....can't get any improvement type stuff done!) But on the other hand I have this thing about quitting jobs before having another one lined up. :)
The boss-man wants me to go out there the week of the 7th for an orientation-type deal, look around the area some.

I now hold Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix in my grubby little handsTo which bookstore did you go at midnight? Clare went with some friends to Borders, but only those who pre-ordered thru Borders got their books last night. We got up at 8 this morning and went to Tarzhay. They had them for $16.86, and there were plenty on the shelves, though they had a limit of 2 per customer. We only got one because the one we pre-ordered from BAMM.com will be here with UPS on Monday, along with Flat Frodo!

is $1.55 lb a reasonable price fer u-pick berries? I have no idea... Seems like a good price to me. You pay at least that much for a little 8 oz. container in the grocery store, even at the height of the season!

Maybe you can break Frodo out of UPS!

Heh....I have a flagstone walk that needs regrading and extending. Is it the sand and the tamping that scares you?
It just looks hard to get right, I fear my tendency to take short cuts... 'I don't think I need to till this, it looks flat. I don't need gravel either.... I will just put some sand down and rake it and call it good.'

Maybe you can break Frodo out of UPS!He's just down the road from me! So near, and yet so far. I can't wait to get him. I'll have to figure out something to carry him in when we're toodling around the Big Apple.
I dont' know about breaking him out. That place is like a fortress!! LOL!
To: HairOfTheDog
Actually it's toting all that stuff over and tamping and stuff. I don't think I need to do any tilling. A couple of years ago I had a concrete driveway poured and it's 2 inches higher than the walkway and the walkway is maybe 6 to 8 inches short of the driveway. I wanted to redo it and add more flagstones so there's not much gravel in between. Actually, I wanted to fill the gaps with dirt and plant moss or something.
To: SuziQ
That place is like a fortress!! You need Flat Sam to break him out of Cirith Ungol.
Okay...now for the compost pile!
To: Overtaxed
I love the moss walks like that.
