Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

"Don't bring the toads in!" LOL. One time Charlie came in with a turtle. I told him he could keep it for a while then to take it out and let it go. About 9 months later, (the next spring), I was sitting at the table and heard a scratching sound from behind the piano. When I looked it was that turtle. It had hibernated all winter in my house:). I like your coops. Becky

Does Roy have any sign of a comb yet? If so she is a rooster.

I just won a prize from a radio contest!! Our local radio station was talking about the Harry Potter craze, and the local curmudgeon talk show host was asking folks to call in and tell about the most recent book they read. If they liked the explanation, you'd win a prize. I called and told him about a murder-mystery I just finished called "Dead Sleep" by Greg Iles. It is about a photojournalist whose twin sister went missing a year and half before the events of the book. At the opening of the book, the woman walks into a Hong Kong art gallery, into a small display of paintings of nude women, called 'The Sleeping Women'. The controversy about the paintings is that no one is sure if the women were alive or dead when they were painted. This woman walks up to one of the paintings and it is her sister!! So the book is about this woman trying to find the painter to find out her sister's fate.
Anyway, they must have liked the explanation of the book because I won two buttons to the "Taste of Shrewsbury Street" Food Festival next Tuesday. With that button, I and someone else can go into all of the participating restaurants along Shrewsbury Street in Worcester where they'll have samples of their signature dishes for people to enjoy!! Most of these places are Italian restaurants and a couple are the best places in town to eat!
Unfortunately SSQ will be flying home from Oregon that night so he can't go! I'll ask my homeschooling Mom friend if she'd like to go. The kids aren't interested, so I'll get them Wendy's or KFC as a treat.
But I was SO excited that I won!! I have to go pick up the buttons at the radio station on Monday.

It will be a sad whistle. I am off to go hear it.

Sorry to hear about the loss of the brewery. Check around and see if there will be any memorabilia for you to snag.
And congrats on all that barn cleanup. I was virtuous this evening, and straightened up my desk.

Now if I could just bring myself to clean my workbench....

Here in the Northwest, all the good ales are the micros -- they are mostly English/Scottish/Irish style, though there's always a Hefeweizen thrown into the mix they offer.

I like most American beer better than English or Irish, though, to tell the truth, if it's beer I like it (make that love it), had a great time in some country pubs in Hampshire, England, much like the ones in the Shire I imagine, trying the different stuff years ago.
Here's one of the ones we hit, an old one, still with a thatched straw roof, we walked through a cow pasture and accross the Itchen River to reach it:

But I think the German and Dutch beer is tops, though I thought the Wild Goose Ale from the Chesapeake is great.

Wow, you've been busy! Too bad about the closing. It's always sad to see the "end of an era."
I got off work #1 a few hours early, so I came home and made a nice dinner - Salmon steak, sauteed mushrooms, and broccoli with cheese. Now I have to put in some time on work #2 to make up for the lost hours.
I've also updated the look of the rest of the Hobbit Hole site to match the forum. Except the Flat Frodo pages.

Good evening everyone, we're home safely from San Antonio. Eyes are all tested and new glasses are ordered. Luckily the doctor didn't have to dilate my pupils, so I didn't develop a raging headache from eyestrain while driving home.
We also got to go to a couple of used book stores while in San Antonio, as well as Rose's favorite Tex-Mex restaraunt. mmmmm, good food.
Have a good evening all!

Ah, those great English pubs. Being Scottish, I suppose it goes without saying that I am an afficionado of the ales from the Isles -- which is why the northwest micros appeal so much to me (same climate, same brew I guess).
After seeing your photo I think another pub-hopping tour of Britain may be necessary...

Nice workstation setup! Is that a flat-panel monitor? I'm envious!

300 WM ; like wall decor, is that a Fairborne and how bout the folder, a Case? Each one focuses on a different item. Who's next?

Oh Rick, that workbench is deplorable! [shakes head]
Nice tidy office though!

The chickens went to bed! Not a squawlk or a peep...just went up in their nest box and went to bed!
I'm so amazed.
I'm going to bathe then go to bed too...we have a hard day planned tomorrow.
Goodnight!

Last whistles are sad. I still remember when they stopped blowing the shift whistle in my hometown when I was a kid, when the last iron mine stopped production.
