The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Actually, I am goin' out!
Today is a sad day in my little town, the Miller (formerly Olympia) brewery whistle will sound tonight at 5 o clock for the last time. It is a big ole whistle that you can hear all over town. For more years than I have been alive it has blown morning noon and night to signal the changing shift.
They are shutting the brewery down for good. Bad for our town and I am teary just thinking about it. We had high hopes when Miller bought it a few years ago, but I guess once they moved in they realized it would cost too much to modernize the plant.
So a couple friends and I are going to go have a couple beers and listen to the whistle blow.

Friday's last blast will evoke memories; The last whistle / Front Page -The Olympian

The chicken coop looks great out there!
I think our animal husbandry on the thread today is a model for all!

Now if you were a chicken, wouldn't you like to live in the middle of a garden? An all organic garden that has people in it all the time, either picking or planting, eating or just plain playing and looking for toads and bugs?
I can't see how these chickens could bother the neighbors.
I'm putting up a fence back behind the coop (where the chain link is...don't know if you can see it.) That's the yard of the people with Bear...that neglected him. The other day one of the kids threw sand in the eyes of another and she was standing there crying and crying. I told the kid to go get their mother and the kid came back out saying "Mama says she'll live". I instructed the kid to take the little girl in the house and wash out her eyes...then went in and told Steve I wanted a fence put up. I can't bear it.

You say that now...wait'll we eat Roy for being a rooster.
LOL Just kidding...we don't know if she's a rooster for sure yet. Then I'm hoping we can just give him to Becky...Matthew loves Roy too much to eat him.

Yes, I'm with you on the fence, sooner the better.
There's no way chickens will bother the neighbors unless one is a rooster, roosters are pretty noisy, starting about dawn.
I'm starting to think the kids' chickens could make good pets in spite of myself. Wonder if the chicks will remain affectionate when they get older.
I was in a place yesterday called the "Parrot Mission." Owned by a lady who is trying to save all the abandoned parrots in S Florida, apparently there's lots, folks had them as pets and got tired of them. You see them flying around the county fairly often, especially the small green and red ones.

I like Miller better than Bud, though I usually like Heinekins best.
Your town may be about to get smaller, Hair.
Becks used to come in clear bottles, but no more, wonder why.

It is sad, the brewery was the only thing of any consequence in this town other than the state capitol. And we all know the foul things produced by state capitols!
And now our one good thing of any size is gone. It will be a sad whistle.

Stick with the crafted micro-brews. No need for guess-work there.
To: Scott from the Left Coast
Some of those micro brews are not so good, though there is a great one from New Orleans called Abita. I wish I could get it in Miami.
Being of Dutch ancestry, Heinekins just feel right.

I actually went to the Heinekin brewery in Amsterdam. You could go in for a "sample" and they brought out a rather large TANKARD of beer! I drank the whole thing, much to my parents shock and had to hold on to my little brother when we left!

"-...and had to find a rest room soon after" In Paris they used to have kiosks just standing around on the sidewalks just for that purpose. I think I will not mention the name of those things though, here.

Ok...I gotta go. See you all later...maybe later tonight, but the weekend is starting so I'm sure I'll be pretty scarce.
