Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

We were about a hundred miles out of Barstow when the last of the ether began to take hold. My attorney was pouring beer on his chest, to facilitate the tanning process. No sense telling him about the bats, I thought. He'll see them soon enough.

In the lobby of the Mint: Over in the corner there was a giant lizard chewing of a woman's neck. The floor was giant blood-soaked sponge. Golf shoes, I thought... we gotta get some golf shoes, or we're never gonna get out of this place alive.

The babies have bonded to me and Matthew! Will run to either one of us when they sense danger! They climb right up in Matthew's lap and huddle there for a while, then venture back into the yard.

The older chicks are doing fine...little Jar jar is very approachable, but Roy is hard to catch. But Matthew will catch her anyway. Tonight he took her all over the yard, holding her in his arms, telling her something...I don't know what.

I just had an interesting phone call. The lady I got the eggs from that all the chicks got killed. She had a hen who built a nest around a golf ball and has been sitting on it. So they saved some eggs and slipped them under her, hopeing she wwould hatch them. She left the nest:)

Well, the older chicks were outside all day today. I brought them in at dusk and put them to bed in their box.

The little ones are still under a lamp, although the lamp is way up...just enough to keep it pretty warm through the night. The screened in porch has plastic up except for on the door and I leave the house door open, so a little air conditioning goes out there during the day. They say they should be in 90 degree heat, but that is just so hot! I maintain about 84 degrees on the porch throughout the day and take them out frequently, and bring them in for naps. They seem to be really thriving!
