Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Well, I don't really want to ask you to send me plants since I've had good healthy plants die when transplanted 3 times. I can't figure it out. I thought the ones I put out last year had made it through the winter fine. They looked good last fall.... but didn't come back. I think I have to figure on this before I put some more out. I still have one pot in the living room - if I was to need it for emergencies.
Anyway, the cats weren't getting into this here so I know it wasn't them. They were glad to see me when I got home last night though.

When my Mama was a teenager, she got drunk once on her Daddy's home-brew. She said that's the sickest she's ever been! He said it served her right. Sorry I didn't repond to your post about your visit with your mom earlier. Seems the forum wasn't working. Wrote a reply, hit post a few times kept getting errors. But, what you said touched me. I know what you mean about tough getting old. I know I am very very fortunate that Grama's mind is still sharp as ever. That is the primary reason why it is so valuable to me to spend time with her while she's in this shape. She is so frustrated to be thinking at top speed and her body just playing out. We laughed and cut up last weekend even amidst the graveness of her situation only a couple of days earlier.
One of her funniest stories is that the night before she married my grandfather she and her "other" boyfriend went out drinking homemade wine. She didn't feel too good the next morning when my grandfather showed up to take her to the church.

Next time you're at the feed store, ask them if they have it. Do they do any gardening stuff?
To: Overtaxed
They're throwing it out anyway! They need to throw it this-a-way.
are you driving to entmoot or flying? If you are driving you can pack plenty and I will bring an extra bag to bring some home in.

What he didn't tell you is that our daughter snagged some stray seeds from the bottom catch all bin at MFA and asked one of the guys who works there if she could take them home to see what they were.
Turns out we have 2 corn plants, 1 pea and lots of different beans and for some reason, her plants are doing better than mine...could be because she got her plants in before I got mine in...and that could be because she kept saying "Is it time to plant my seeds yet"..."Is it time to plant my seeds yet"!

I expect I'll be driving.

I know I am very very fortunate that Grama's mind is still sharp as everYes, you're very fortunate. It is sad to see Mama like she is. She used to be the most talkative of all her sisters. Guess I get it honest! Now she doesn't talk a whole lot, and when she does, she repeats the same things over and over. Kind of like the mantra for the day. A thought will get stuck in her head and she just stays on it. She's still a sweetie, though!
How old is your Grama? Mama is going to be 84 this August!
To: g'nad
How cute! How fun! Grab a handful of mystery seeds! - Protect those corn plants for her! They will be vulnerable standing tall all alone!
They will be the best corn she ever tasted.

Okay, Luke is in bed and (mostly) cleaned up (not in that order). I need a digital camera. It was like he'd been dipped in chocolate...
Who wants to balance my checkbook? I'm thinking of watching a movie whilst I do it. Hmmmm...I think it's time for O Brother Where Art Thou...
To: ecurbh
It is extraordinarily suspicious behavior!
And I just had a big bowl of raison bran, so I am still gonna be at a net loss for the day!
I just really don't have anything more I should say!

OH!! That is so cute! I love it when kids do that. My kids always had to plant something of their own. 3 summers ago my middle grandaugher (then 2 years old) spent most of the summer with me. She requested a lot of
yellow flowers. That summer my place was surrounded with almost complete yellow.
I think that's awesome that your daughter did that. :-)
