The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I'm back!
The weather changes every 15 minutes in Miami, so the storm clouds started rolling in again just about 5 minutes ago. But I did get to have some fun with Becky in the pool - or at least, she had fun. I was playing "horsey" and as all parents know, it gets pretty tiring after the first few minutes. Whew!
So, my MIL just broiled up some steaks and I'm gonna have a steak, a beer and a cig...in that order! Oh wait, beer is not allowed on Atkins. OK then, some water will have to do!

I noticed that I think I must be the only person on the thread who is not losing pounds and inches. It's depressing.I haven't lost a durned thing! I weighed myself today so that's a fact!
So, I had 2 tortillas and am eating Dove dark chocolate.
Mmmmmmmmmmmm...chocolate!
The last one I opened says: Chocolate - who needs a reason?
What lovely words to live by!

I'm doing Atkins. It's a good diet for me since I would rather cut the carbs than the protein anyway. The chocolate ecurbh mentioned a few posts back is the real kicker, though. It's a dollar or more per bar, but it tastes like chocolate and it's about three carbs.
I've been on the diet since March, with two or three days off now and then. Haven't done that in a month, I just haven't felt like it. It's working really well for me.

MMMmmm.... steak....
I had 3 chocolates. I'm tired of chocolate now. I reserve the right for that to be for this 60 second interval if necesary!
Yes, horsey is tiring. As well as a lot of the other parent games. Look at it as your daily aerobics!!! Or just look at it as fun....... it's starting to get really quiet around here. :-)
Jill used to give me a bag of these Dove dark chocolates for birthday/mother's day/Christmas pretty often when they still lived here. Now that they're in Germany she has sent me lots of German chocolate. But, I don't care too much for it compared to our plain old dark chocolate. I'm a fuddy duddy I guess. Anyway, with Dove's you always get a message.

Well, it's a start. But, it is June. I think it's time to do some calling of your own.
You didn't ever ask any advice that I recall. But, I wish I still lived at home.
Put the resume in the mail. You could actually still do that today.

Had yet another yummy Atkins lunch: Tossed salad with tuna, cheese and olive oil dressing. For dessert, ice cream (made with Splenda) and some blueberries.

Do you think you will be able to continue to eat this way long term? That is the big thing. I haven't gone on an actual diet in years but, I do know how to eat smarter, smaller and better in order to get weight and a couple of health issues back in line. The thing is, picking the eating style that works AND you can stick with on a marginal basis to keep weight off. I said I'd gained. But, I'm still in the same clothing. It's just too tight right now. If I'm smart, I will lessen my portions now because I am eating the things that work for me. -- except the Dove Dark Chocolates. And since 3 was enough right now, that's good.......and i'll try not to walk back by the coffee table where the remaining chocolate is.

Mail? People still use mail? LOL okay, you're right, email it!!! Now!!!
you do have your resume all made up don't you?
Yes, some of us still use mail. But, I'm advocating that in order to eliminate all income tax, people who mail junk mail be forced to pay a horrendous junk mail tax to fund the federal budget.

So, I'm way out of it with my tortillas and chocolate for lunch today!
Actually, that was the last 2 homemade tortillas that I had from home. So, it was my indulgence. I figured I'd go ahead and eat them before they went bad, AND get them out of sight.
Tonight I am probably going to open that bacon I got for last weekend and fry a bunch of it up. I'll fit in better then.

Yes, I have one and have been sending them out to companies I actually want to work for. Maybe I should send them to the second tier. :)

I started out okay...frittata (I don't do omelettes anymore) with onion, green pepper, and mushroom with bacon and coffee but fell off the wagon at lunch. It was ice cream heavy. I need to get the rest of that ice cream out of the house. :)

I think I will, to a large extent. Plus, this diet is good for me to start working out. You need protein to build muscle. The idea with the low-carb diet is that you eventually build up to a more normal level of carbs, once you've lost the weight. You won't be eating spaghetti, except as a special treat, but you can have a tortilla now and then...
Tomorrow I am wearing a dress that has not fit for two years. Woohoo!

Good Afternoon; back from mines, enjoying a cup of coffee; dinner tonight with our former neighbors and their family, their 50th anniversary. A good long happy marriage, we've got 19 to go equal them, Good Lord willing.
Corin: I would think jack hammers and bulldozer would be more appropriate for our side.
300WM: okay, Rimshot (tap..tap) Is this mike on. etc.
To: Wneighbor
I noticed that I think I must be the only person on the thread who is not losing pounds and inches.I'm not either! Atkins wouldn't work for me. Excercise would, but I can't FReep when I'm excercising...

CS & LF & WN; four corners you say, my first job was with the USFS on the Sitgreaves NF on the Rim. Really enjoyed the SW. Now and then I read a Jim Chee & Joe Leaphorn story for an AZ fix. Worked with a lot of Zuni, Hopi and Navajo crewmen, really great people.
Great SW cooking at the Brown Jug in Winslow AZ, great heaping bowl of chile with fry bread, hmmmm. But also like the no. NM cooking, flat enchiladas with an egg and big bowl of posole. Santa Fe would have been a great place to live bout 30 years ago but still good for a visit, bout every decade or so. Sangre de Christos are still there and still breath-taking.
On my to Arizona I drove through Gallup NM on Saturday night, I really wondered what I was getting myself into by heading to the SW.

RMD: loved the food, didn't recognize the beers, Sue enjoys a Tecate or Carta on occasion when we're out.
She used to live and work in Ft. Lauderdale and has made Cuban bread, black beans and yellow rice. Pretty tasty.
To: JenB
JB: you are to be congradulated, it is a struggle that I have fought myself. It is a great feeling to pull out the "old stuff" and wear it with style and grace.
Being a guy is a lot easier that way, Dockers are Dockers, did the 38 to 34 routine, took about a year and half but it was worth it. Whole new attitude and outlook comes with it.
