The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

It's weird, but I've had less interest in carbs lately.

LOL, I don't actually pay attention to carbs - or anything - except I try to eat lots of fresh veggies and fruits and little processed stuff.

But, since I really don't like bread and it's a product that seems to get put with almost everything you eat, it seemed logical to me a few years ago to STOP eating the things that go on my plate that I really don't like. And bread is the main one.

But then, I have an allergy to wheat, potato and milk products so it's smart to leave those off as much as possible anyway.

You did very well, WN! Cilantro is in the spice cabinet, but there's fresh in the garden if you prefer.

Back to the pool!

I'd like for it to be off. I don't really like powdered lemonade mix.

It's off.

But, you know, I have a boring lifestyle here till I get a part-time job. And I might be curious enough to include that in my puttering. Don't know what I'd do with it if it worked... but, my curiosity is aroused.

I would like to live in Tucson. My grama's sister and several of her children and grandchildren live in Tucson. I think it's one of the most lovely places on earth.

Swim some for me. I have got my last years WallyWorld pool in the back yard to be cleaned up. But, gee! It hasn't even been hot enough here to do it!

It's weird, but I've had less interest in carbs lately.

I've noticed the same thing. Now when I see a coworker eating some junk food that I used to like, such as Doritos, all I can think about is what it does to my body, and I have no desire for it anymore. I'll just happily munch away on some sliced jicama or string cheese.

I picked up some Carbolite chocolate bars at WalMart the other day. A little pricey, but they are just about as good as the real thing, and are great for staving off the sweet tooth a couple times a week. Have either of you tried low-carb tortillas?

Oh, well, the bacon was still good. Just not as good as it might have been if I hadn't over-crisped it.

I might have liked your bacon. Grama says I burn it. MMMmmm.

Ya'll are makin' me hungry. And I weed whacked and worked. I have to cook now too.

I would like to live in Tucson.

Tucson is a very nice town, even though it is a liberal stronghold. The way the light plays across the mountains throughout the day is lovely. There are a lot of photographers based there, for good reason. I went to the University there, and have a great-aunt that still lives there. They moved there right after WW2, and have a house on several acres of open desert on the east side of town. It used to be out in the boondocks, but not any more.

Whoa! Awesome. My aunt lives very close to campus. She does not drive and when I go visit we walk over to campus occasionally. They had 7 children. 4 of them went to the university. I was always getting tours growing up. But, as you can tell, I loved it.

It is a gorgeous campus, especially the historic section, with its narrow olive tree lined streets. Did you know they just finished building a new student union, one of the largest in the country?

I'm willing to try it with lemonade concentrate, though.

Need to up the job hunt effort. I've got 3 leads so far. Decided Thursday that I did't really want to move. Besides, they're taking so long about it!

No, I didn't know about the student union. I haven't been for a visit of more than a day in 3 years. My Grama hasn't felt up to driving out there and so her sister has been coming here to visit a lot recently.

I would like to go this summer. (well hopefully someone will call me about a part-time job) With this schedule of only working Monday and Wednesday morning I'd have time to drive out for a nice 3 day visit.

Go for the concentrate. That stuff is good. If I'd have remembered I would have told Jen to have a spoonful of frozen concentrate for her cough and sore throat the other day.

Didn't you interview with an evil empire? How did that go? Were you not sassy enough? Too sassy? You didn't show 'em a finger did you?

Naaahhh...no interview there. I just submitted a resume. They brag about their diversity programs so I pretty much am prejudiced against them.

Eww. So, have you had any other interviews anywhere?

Nobody's around this afternoon. I quit whispering.

I noticed that I think I must be the only person on the thread who is not losing pounds and inches. It's depressing. So, I had 2 tortillas and am eating Dove dark chocolate. The last one I opened says: Chocolate - who needs a reason?
