Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Any luck with the lawnmower?
I just finished a story. For the first time in forever. It's a short story, true, but I finished it and I might even edit it. I feel like I've really done something.
It's about the last elf in the world, so all the elf-haters would be happy ;)

Woo Hoo!
I saw a Keebler truck on the way home...reminded me of you. :)
No luck with the lawnmower. Wonder if I'm any better at sharpening blades than I am at removing bolts. :)
To: Overtaxed
Try finding a nice handsome guy to fix the bolts. Or, better yet, mow the lawn for you!

Idle scary note: my spellchecker does not flag "Tolkien".
Other idle note: I will be watching "Amazing Race" this evening, so I'll be back when that's done.

Umm...heh...should I admit I have a "Nethack" game (very like Rogue) going right now? (It's kinda slow here...and that's about the only game I play...)I'm pleased to admit I've got those games on my Palm Pilot. Larn, Rogue, Moria (Palm versions), solitaire (37,000 games played so far), a couple of pinball games, some Breakout and Tetris-types, more card games, PacMan. Plus several books ("The Hobbit" is my current book), my tech notes, service calls, appointments, phone list, photos, and about an hour of MP3s. Did I mention how much I love my Palm Pilot?
Of course, it has more computational horsepower than my first pentium PC.
To: 300winmag
Very cool! Mind if I ask where you got Larn, Rogue, and Moria for the Palm? I need some new games for mine. ;)

OT: try "Liquid Wrench" most hardware stores, comes in a can or spray. Yellow can. Clean off the loose grass and crud, put a few drops on the threads and where you can, then let it work, overnight at least 24 hours better. Works great and has either a pleasant or "distinctive" smell, depending on your olfactory acumen. :-)

Ok...will try it.

No luck with the lawnmower. Wonder if I'm any better at sharpening blades than I am at removing bolts. :)Do you have a blade clamp to hold the blade? That way, all your torque goes into removing the nut, and not holding the blade, too. These blade clamps are probably available at any place that services power mowers, and should cost <$10.
You might also put a socket wrench, and a breaker bar, to that nut. It gets you lots more torque.

I dunno, have to ask her. Hullo! Back from town.... bought some toner, bought a new keyboard, bought some hay, yadda yadda yadda ended up at a bar with a buddy of mine.

FROM TORN:
ROTK TRAILER NEWS
6/05/03, 4:03 pm EST - Xoanon
We get hundreds of emails a day here at TORN, but today I personally have gotten at least a dozen asking about the ROTK trailer. People asking me why it wasn't attached to TTT or panicking when they notice TTT has left their local theatre. Here is what we KNOW.
The ROTK trailer will not be attached to the end of TTT anywhere. It WILL be seen as a regular trailer (the type before a film starts) sometime soon but NOT IN JUNE. The last I heard it will NOT be attached to 'Dumb and Dumberer', but of course things are fluid and could possibly change.
So there's the news that is fit to print. Take a screenshot of this page, print it out, stick it on your fridge...tell your friends or family or the guy who hands you your food at the next drive-thu you go to....just get the word out.

The best places to look are palmgear.com and handdango.com. If that doesn't help, try a google search on "roguelike games". There are versions for just about any type of computer. For Palm specifically, try
http://roguelike-palm.sourceforge.net/
To: HairOfTheDog
I don't know why, but this news disquiets me.
To: 300winmag
Very nice, thanks for the link!
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
Disquieting is a good word for it....
To: 300winmag
WEll....I have a socket wrench. I'll see if I can find a blade clamp.
To: HairOfTheDog
Makes one wonder... are they still working on the CGI? Editing? Or, are they just trying to build suspense...? Or is it that they know it's going to be a blockbuster so they don't feel they need to put out many trailers?
Nice smiley, by the way. I've stolen it.
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
They were shooting pickups in May! - It isn't done! Eeeeek!
