The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I am calm (and quite content, really) and you just must not have meant to be so rude then. Perhaps you need rest. No one 'cept a troll would normally come into a place and say "Ever thought about a life? I hear tell you can rent one in this world if you can save up enough." Must 've been a big ole typo. Apology you may offer would be accepted.

Glad you mentioned it.... I will file it in the place where that kind of info goes!

We need a title for thread 4.

Truthfully, I wasn't so sure about the "yes," but some of the "no's" were so obnoxious that I just went for the yes. If it makes a point against the bombers, of course I would agree with myself.

Good night, All

>>Well, if you read back a bit ...<<

After my last post, I started to follow up on your suggestion. But I mean "1 of 41,475" means that at the rate of 3 seconds per posts would take 35 days (with no new posts in the intermittent month). How depressing.

All I can say is that I utter "Enter Friend." (waiting to see if the doors open)

;)

Rattlesnake ridge...LOL, we live by Snake Creek. Seen several rattlesnakes, have had 2 copperheads in the house. After finding the little devils whenever I got up at night I pulled on my boots. PJ's and boots.

How about, "Hobbit Hole IV"?

Oh, wait, I had a brainstorm... "Through Moria and Beyond"

but cooperhead and rattle snakes very rarely kill you.

Well, that is a little bit reassuring!

If snakes in your yard is really a big problem the best thing to have around is guinia Hens(sp), they will alert you that the snake is there, they also kill them. It's just that they are noisy birds.

Wait... which crossroads was the thread title referring to?

I always thought it was the one at Bree, but I guess I was wrong?

The only time a snake bite endangers a dog is if they get bite on the nose, the poison does not kill dogs, but will cause swelling. If they get bite around their nose or throat and the swelling blocks the air passages you might have a problem, just give them antihistimenes. REally, my dog that got killed got bite severl times. her head swelled up like a toad, but she didn't seem to hurt and kept breathing, In 24-48 hours it would be gone.

Never mind, I found it...

I guess "Shelob's Lair" wouldn't be a good title, huh?

Journey to the Crossroads is the Title of Book 4 ch. 7.... Frodo and Sam go to the Crossroads after leaving Faramir.

I like for the next thread

The Hobbit Hole III - Of Herbs and Stewed Rabbit
or
The Hobbit Hole III - The Houses of Healing

I want the RoTK premier thread to be

"Homeward Bound" or "Many Partings" (as long as folk don't think it is the end and go home!)

Well, maybe I don't need to be so fearful for all of you that live in snake country then! I watched a show on TV though where snakebites were real bad, people's arms were digesting from the inside! Don't know what kind of snakes, but I thought they were rattlers.

Hmm... how about "The Ride of the Rohirrim"?

I don't think the ROTK thread should be "Many Partings"... especially since it will lead into Entmoot. "Homeward Bound" would be ok though, imho.

But maybe you know something I don't.

Yes, perhaps we do. And I see that Hair and Bear have already mentioned some things to you.

We share a common interest in Tolkien. A common interest in conservative politics.

We also have done a fairly extensive project supporting our adopted troop in Afghanistan.

We've helped each other through job loss, death of friends and family members, death of pets, moving, children leaving the nest and quite a bit more.

There's no requirement that you read the whole thread. But stick around for a couple of days and you see that our lives are actually quite fascinating.

As for Hair's reaction to your post, you did appear to be rude. Even if you meant it in jest. You'll find here that those of us who consider ourselves dwarvish actually thrive on rude behavior.

But we first have proven our loyalty and our friendship.

Have a pint (or two), share some Old Tovey. And be sure to stop in in the morning. Ruthy puts on a mighty fine breakfast for us.

This is our "home" on FreeRepublic. Many of us venture into the outside world of the other threads. But this is our anchor.

Accept us for who we are and we shall do the same.

Challenge us, and we'll beat the crap out of you. ;-)

You know, if we average 500 posts/day, we should reach 60,000 in 37 days.

mmmmmm...implosions...
