Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Maybe he thinks the model looks like Woody Woodpecker.
To: HairOfTheDog
The particular model was a very large lady, about 300#.
To: Sam Cree
no clothes still?
To: HairOfTheDog
Yeah, no clothes, she was a sight. Nice lady, though. I am getting to be on first name basis with most of them.
Strangely, from the back, where most of her fat wasn't, it was stuck in front more, you could see that she had an elegant figure if she could lose weight.

I am getting to be on first name basis with most of them. Well that is good. I try to be on a first name basis with everyone I have seen naked too.

Oh, brother, exciting day today at the barn!
My mare who is otherwise an extremely clever jumper simply HATES trot poles. Our trainer set up a bounce with two trot poles leading in - she did it o.k. several times and then got careless. She tries to rush the poles and has to be half-halted. This time, she stepped ON the first pole and it rolled - she stepped on the second pole with her OTHER foot and promptly went down to her knees. (At this point my legs are still in position but my upper body has collapsed and my face is buried in the side of her neck.)
Somehow she JUMPED like a kangaroo with her hind legs only and cleared the first element of the bounce (and smacked me in the face with her neck), then recovered completely for the second element (and took the correct canter lead for the turn). Somehow she only knocked down one bar of the second element. I had thrown my reins to the buckle when she fell, but she did not panic and when I called to her to "whoa" she came back to a walk. She was perfectly calm when I stroked her neck, so I pulled back to the head of the jump lane and asked, "Can we try that again?" Trainer: "Let me put it back together first." The mare had rolled both trot poles all the way to the foot of the first jump.
She trotted it the next time with her knees to her chin like a park hackney.
Fortunately she retrieved her reputation during the rest of the class as the only horse who successfully completed a 90 degree four-stride bending line at the canter EVERY time. Handy hunter, here we come! (Not bad for a 16hh T'bred with long legs.)
Her knees, by the way, are fine. Good deep sand in the arena. My face, however, is going to have a lovely bruise on the left cheekbone.

"That someone was watching me" Another ghost story occurred in the old house last week. One of the bridesmaids was lying in bed at night, in the bed next to my neice (who was getting married). Suddenly she felt someone else in bed with her, resting a head on her shoulder. Freaked, she asked my neice to turn on the light, which she did...no one was there at all.
Both did not fall asleep right away.
To: HairOfTheDog
Yeah, good policy. So far that category is limited to my younger brothers and a couple babysat kids who I've known in diapers, though.

Ha!
Well, I used to be shy, having to draw naked folk.
To: AnAmericanMother
Wow - What a graceful recovery from a wreck! - I am glad neither of you was hurt!
To: HairOfTheDog
All these brushies with death today! See I get double credit, cause I'm a cancer survivor too!

Eek! Have you considered having a priest bless or exorcise the place?
We had our favorite priest come and thoroughly bless our house before we moved in. Can't hurt.
My great aunt had a problem with a haunted secretary (the furniture kind, not the administrative assistant kind). It would open and close itself, even when locked, and papers would appear and disappear. The last straw was when the bookcase, which was locked, opened itself while she was sitting across the room looking at it. She had it blessed and that seemed to fix the problem.
To: AnAmericanMother
I don't know, we all grew up in the house, no one seems too concerned about it.
Tell you the truth, I sleep better when I'm not alone there. But there are so many happy memories from the place, over the years.
To: AnAmericanMother
I dunno, if my place was haunted I might just set out another plate!
To: Sam Cree
But there are so many happy memories from the place, over the years. And apparently, they're all still there!
