The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I'll bet these candy-melt discs would work in that recipe! Or you could look for the Ghiradelli Melting chocolate bars. They're usuall in the same place as the chocolate chips. It is scrumptious!

I know what you mean about the chips keeping their shape. When I tried to melt some chips recently, it looked as though they hadn't melted, yet when I stirred them, they were soft!

You know, I noticed that too, about the chocolate chips! Humph!

A button! No little handle that swiveled?

Nope. A button. Where the "Enter" key is located.

I had to scroll down to see if the forest fire photo was there yet.

I had already gone to bed by then. Good Morning!

You, Wneighbor, and I are gonna drive JenB nuts with our accents at Entmoot.

Actually, I don't have an accent unless I do it intentionally. I was a speech major and did enough drama. People have always had a hard time figuring out where I'm from.

Living here in Richmond, I do tend to slip into the Tidewater accent ('cause it's really cool). But if I were to be true to my roots, you'd hear the Appalachia coming thru.

That said, if anyone needs a driver, I'll be happy to drive them nuts.

It's my job.

I'll bet he's outgrown them by now.

He'd outgrown them by the end of last summer.

But I'm just too occupied in the brain to get to the Hole very often for tea and sympathy.

Good luck Scott. We'll keep the pints chilled in anticipation of celebratory news. We'll even chill more in case the news is now what you wished.

Heck, we'll chill the pints either way. Best of luck. You'll do fine.

Good morning

Nobody will be surprised. This is the first morning I could sleep late in all this time off. And I've been up for half an hour. Wide awake.

Why do you creep? Or go everywhere at light speed? I will be needing rides between the castle and the airport.

I knew it! Is this your fire for getting out of bed? Only thing is, you didn't ping Sam to it. He thinks you should burn the shredables too.

Are you a bit more anticipatory about your move after talking to the realtor? Or just flat not wanting to go?

I dreamed I was at my old house this morning. It felt good to dream about being in the shire while on this path by Mordor.

The Selectric is still in perfect condition, and is currently on loan to an aunt who had her beloved IBM Executive stolen. She says she's finally getting used to the "newfangled" type ball.

I loved those. Matter of fact when IBM first went to word processors I just happened to be doing secretarial work there in Austin. I did fine with the word processor but I didn't really see why it was any better than the Selectric.

Do I hear you are thinking about moving to San Antonio? We need to moot before you do!

Well, I'm thinking about going anywhere that I might find a job that will quit messing me around with pay. This one just isn't what it should be. Funny think is, I'm positive that if I were working for anyone BUT a governmental entity, the labor board would be interested in how they keep managing to pay me less than I should be getting.

Anyway, we do need to moot. I was thinking it would be fun when Becky first mentioned the chicken hatching. But, that is one of the 2 days a week when I "get" to work.

Morning! More importantly- Happy Friday!!!

Spoke to the builder yesterday (which turned out to be a 'very bright cloud day')to see what was up with my house. Well, well, well, as soon as I figure out who's in charge, heads are gonna roll! Turns out the county has prevented the builder from starting my house (did anybody bother to clue us in????) because there was a requirement to have lawns and driveways in on the existing houses by 1 May. Due to the rain, they're still putting in lawns and driveways. Now, it seems to me that completely different crews do the lawns than dig my foundation. I see no reason why the builder can't pay some sort of fine for the tardy lawns and still dig my foundation. I'm going to find someone at county to chew out today....

I feel like Snoopy having one of his 'snake' moods...I want to bite someone....

LOL It is now that I'm teaching school.

When I worked at a factory 6:00 was start work time. 5:30 was get there and have coffee and shoot the bull with my engineer time. 4:55 was leave the house time. So, 4:40 was get out of bed time.

Some will laugh but after getting up like that for 13 years, it was hell learning to sleep until 6:00. On the nights I teach night class I'm at the school till 9:30. That was a half hour past bedtime. I hated it.

LF, in your contract with your builder do you have any deadlines for your work?
